They give out full rides to Lacrosse, Polo, and water polo. It's mostly white people playing tennis and golf. Which colleges offer those kinds of programs? Bovine University? Then there's title ix that opened up the same sports to women. Looks like they already do have AA in college sports. It's also quaint to call out legacy bias with the Obama's when the wealthy has done that since the beginning. An inheritance tax would do something to cut down that inequity gap, wouldn't it? Take that Oprah and Michael Jordan!
I wasn't saying that but I will say that, and there have been studies showing it to be true. If you look at the underfunded schools minorities attend, the fact that many minorities are under assessed as Gifted and Talented and over identified as special education students, the reduced education opportunities offered their parents, the internal bias of many standardized tests etc. makes it much more difficult for minorities to get into a university.
Businesses like Google and Starbucks encourage diversity in their workforce. They believe diversity makes them stronger companies. If you ask, they'll cite scholarship that contends that to be true. I believe we see that same behavior at many professional sports teams in all parts of the company outside of the team rosters. They want diversity in their marketing department, in IT, even coaching. If the Lin Only Haters are to be believed, they'll do it with players too to get that sweet, sweet Chinese money. I don't think you really understand it. You have two phenomena going on here. Affirmative action -- the idea that we cannot quickly overcome historic inequities by simply being neutral but instead need to proactively compensate for the racial deficit we've created -- is one, and diversity policy is another. Diversity policy says it is good for the organization, not the historically disenfranchised individual, to include people from many backgrounds. The two can go together because it's a win-win when a company's diversity policy is good for historically disadvantaged people too. But, you want to look at the whole exercise as merely a benefits program run for minorities because of -- what? -- white guilt? That's not what's going on. The shareholder does not want to pay for social justice. The shareholder doesn't feel white guilt because they believe themselves to be anonymous. The shareholder accepts diversity policies because they believe it serves the bottom line.
yes. we need diversity policy in sports as its a win win as you call it diversity is great and makes us all stronger NBA, NFL, college sports should try to have their teams represent the general population. shareholders will love it as it serves the bottom line
No, NBA, NFL and college sports should try and have the best teams available. As was mentioned, college sports already do factor in Affirmative Action since they are tied to the university.
A. I'm not saying AA helps anyone B. Please explain how someone who is the daughter of a former POTUS is helped by AA.
