I think that's a great idea for next season If we can't get one in the draft.

    First quarter=Shaq
    Second quarter=Yao
    Third quarter=Shaq
    Fourth quarter=Yao

    24 minutes a piece!

Hell sign up Dream for the last 3 minutes of the game...

Sadly this article did not provide any convincing reasons as to why Shaq would help the Rockets and why the Rockets would want him, other than the assumption that Shaq would be willing and able to mentor Yao. I am quite skeptical of this assumption seeing how his reactions have been mostly contemptuous and spiteful whenever Yao or Dwight Howard's name is brought up in the conversation of who is the best center in the league. Shaq has a pretty large ego, an ego that has still been unwilling to give credit where credit is due. For that reason, I am extremely skeptical that Shaq would even want to mentor Yao Ming. And even if he were willing to, they are two completely different players in almost every aspect of the game. The only mentoring that Shaq may provide is on the mental side of the game, definitely not on the physical.

I think Shaq could fill in like Deke did and wouldn't mind. He always speaks highly of Yao, unlike many other centers in the NBA

This is a tough one . . . on the fence with it, but would like the move at first.

He could be make the Rockets second unit one of the most devastating units in the league. While, he is a more than ideal replacement starter until Yao is healthy. We can hold off another year look for a longer term replacement at center. Shaq and Rockets personnel compliment each other so much, he can draw attention from outside defenders and collapsing defenses, like Yao. While, there's an array of deadly shooters with Kevin Martin, Trevor Ariza, and Aaron Broks, as Scola has a nice mid-range and Battier can hit some shot as well. Next, you've got guys like Chase who can also shoot and we have players like Jeffries and Hayes who can sometimes cover his defensive liabilities as he can stay out of the paint.

Problem with Shaq, he may cause tension in the locker room, if he is not getting the playing time he wants and laying out with not too serious injury.

Shaq has a big ego. He would never play backup center to Yao even at this stage of his career. I think he might go to the Mavs to replace Dampier. He and Cuban are good friends.

The idea of Shaq in red always intrigued me and I personally won't mind having him on the Rockets. It all comes down to whether or not he would play Deke's role as a mentor and back up. Granted he would see some decent playing time as Yao will still be recovering from his injury, but will he relinquish his role as a starter once Yao fully recovers? He would have to humble himself but then again, we are talking about Shaq here...

If LeBron bolts Cleveland, it's pretty unlikely Shaq will ever play for a contender again, unless he signs with Dallas or something, but that doesn't seem likely. Houston would actually be a pretty good situation for him. He'd get meaningful playing time on a respectable, drama-free team. Obviously, one of his kids lives here, and he knows the town well. Unless they gel to an insane degree next season or Morey blows minds, the Rockets probably won't be a true title contender, but they could certainly play some quality ball. It's about as good a situation as Shaq is likely to find if he's cool with coming off the bench.

Why would Yao need Shaq to mentor him? They're two totally different centers.

He has actually been pretty complimentary of Yao in recent years. I think he would give Yao pointers and what not. Howard stole his nickname ("Superman"). Who wouldn't be pissed?

Didn't Yao also hooked him up with a Chinese shoe contract?
