"very lucky" "we would have destroyed him" ... dude is taking himself and the media a wee bit too seriously. He assumes Top 5 players give a fk about what the media says, especially an introvert who has never shown any signs of needing to be liked by the media. And Russillo is taking the media a wee bit too seriously by saying he'd be "destroyed." "Oh, the media is soooo important, we can destroy careers, and make players cry." Except Dwight "soft" Howard, how many legit Top 5 players of any era cower to bashing by the media. seriously. I think most, by the very fact they got *that* good, are of the make-up to not let words hurt them ... they have certainly survived on-court, opponent intimidation all their lives ... and laughed in its face (literally or figuratively).
KD? the media can shape the narrative about u...media still has people thinking that Harden plays no D
Yep, if there is anyone in recent memory who was "destroyed" by the media, such that they cared, it would be Cupcake. But when I posed the question, KD is, imo, a prime example of a superstar who was bashed and didn't show any side effects of it on the court or off. Did it hurt his brand, his play, or legacy? Did he really care? That's what I mean. What does Russillo think the media actually does by "destroying" Top 5 superstars, such that they are "very lucky" when they don't. Just think he's taking himself and media too seriously.
Weird to thing say. He's lucky "WE"... if you're part of the "WE" then either go after the guy or explain to me why you chose not to.
I would love to hear you ask that question of him, and his reply. Willing to bet that he'll probably say "we" is inclusive of the entirety of the sports world, including fans. "We" fans and media would have destroyed him. And something like "He was given a break, because of X"..., then "because of X" becomes the debate of the day...which ESPN (etc) debating all different flavors of X and what it means to you. The answer really is, "We didn't 'destroy' him with our daily celebrity gossip style news coverage, because he and San Antonio were too boring for ratings, so isn't really news." "It’s as if the media doesn’t matter as much as y’all want fans to believe."
Rumor has it he is autistic and spends his free time watching Sponge Bob in a baby pool in his living room or perfecting how to cook the perfect hot pocket in the toaster.
