Am I the only one who wants San Antonio? I think if the Rockets face the Spurs, Mchale will be forced to make better play calls and I think that series will improve his coaching.

If we still want the 2 seed, we should really hope for:

    OKC win and NO loss
    OKC win and NO WIN
    OKC Loss and NO loss

We need the Pels to give it their all that last game of the season.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong but I believe the Spurs would have to lose at NO, Mem would need to lose to night to GSW and Rockets need to win out in order to re-claim the # 2 seed.

Correct. Well, Memphis needs to lose either at GS or at home to IND, but otherwise that's the scenario. The key aside from the Rockets winning out is we need OKC to beat the Blazers tonight. We do not want the Pelicans clinching the 8th seed BEFORE Wednesday when San Antonio visits. That would all but wrap up the division for them.

You are forgetting the Clippers, unless they lose also we can't leap them.

Not true. If we pass the Spurs and Grizzlies and take the division, we automatically pass the Clippers due to having the tiebreaker.

The Rocket's fate is only partially in their hands. Sort of like the Texan's last season. Difference is that the Rockets are "in" the playoffs already. I really don't want the Clippers in the first round; I would actually rather get SA. Beating them would be heroic and losing would be no shame. The Clippers will eliminate us for sure, no if's, and's, or but's. Mav's would be best, Portland next and that won't be any cake walk as Lamarkus and Lillard could crush our dreams again. Mavs would play their hearts out trying to beat us, but I feel certain we could eliminate them.

Divisional champ is the top tie breaker.

So if Spurs and Grizz lose any game and we will out, we are the 2 seed.

So basically the Clip right now looking at the 3rd seed at best and probably is locked at there.

Would they? I'm not so sure. Atrocious bench that we'd likely exploit easily. They're difficult, but I think we have a lot of matchup advantages with them now that we didn't have a year ago.

I think this is how it goes:

If Grizzlies, Rockets, Spurs, Clippers win out:

    2. Spurs
    3. Clippers
    4. Blazers
    5. Grizzlies
    6. Rockets

If Grizzlies, Rockets, Spurs win out, Clippers lose one

    2. Spurs
    3. Grizzlies
    4. Blazers
    5. Rockets
    6. Clippers

If Grizzlies, Clippers, Rockets win out, Spurs lose one

    2. Grizzlies
    3. Clippers
    4. Blazers
    5. Rockets
    6. Spurs

If Clippers, Spurs, Rockets win out, Grizzlies lose one

    2. Spurs
    3. Clippers
    4. Blazers
    5. Rockets
    6. Grizzlies

If Clippers, Spurs, win out, Rockets, Grizzlies lose one

    2. Spurs
    3. Clippers
    4. Blazers
    5. Grizzlies
    6. Rockets

If Clippers win out, Spurs, Grizzlies, Rockets lose one

    2. Clippers
    3. Spurs
    4. Blazers
    5. Grizzlies
    6. Rockets

If Rockets win out, Grizzlies, Clippers, Spurs lose one

    2. Rockets
    3. Grizzlies
    4. Blazers
    5. Clippers
    6. Spurs

Or you can just look at the schedule and below is the most likely outcome of all :

    1. the Clips will likely to win both against the Nuggets and Sun.
    2. The Spurs will likely to win against the Pel.
    3. The Rox will likely to win both.
    4. the Griz will likely to lose to GSW.

Hence the final standing will most likely to be :

    2. Spurs
    3. Clips
    4. Blazers
    5. Rox
    6. Griz

    My dream scenario:
    -Memphis loses to GS
    -OKC beats Portland and Minnesota
-Pelicans forced to play all-out during the last game of the season against the Spurs

If this happens, then we benefit regardless of what happens during the Spurs-Pelicans game:
-Pelicans win, we get 2nd seed and get the 18th pick
-Pelicans lose, we get 5th seed (face Portland) and get the 14th pick

Obviously, I care more about seeding than 4 spots in a draft, but at least we've somewhat hedged our bets here

Basically, the Rockets has lost all tie breakers against the three competing teams (Spurs, Grizzlies, Clippers). So the only way we can be #2 is we win out and everybody else lose at least one.

If only one of those teams lose a game, we are #5. If they all win, or if we lose one, we are #6.

Would it be the most Rockets thing ever if Memphis loses to GS, Spurs lose to the Pels, and then we lose to the Jazz?

No, if we win out, we are the divisional champ, its the first tie breaker against same team with the same record and we will have upper hand against the Clips.

we only need the Griz to lose one game - which is highly possible tonight.

and then we need to hop OKC to win at the Blazers tonight, to force the Pel play hard against the Spurs and hope for an upset.

If the Spurs win, most likely we will be no.5 at best.

Clippers don't have to lose one because Golden State won in their division. However if we win our division over spurs and Grizzlies that would put us in 2nd place/seed overall.
