Yay or nay? I am all for it, since the man: - has paid his dues as an assistant - is valued and respected around the league and on that Clippers bench - has learned from Doc Rivers, who's arguably top 5 of active coaches - values mid-range since it's a shot you can get late in a play-off game, so will mix it up and less reliance on threes would be good. Also Harden going back to mid-range shots would be great. - Rockets legend - a former guard who came off the bench can work fell to work with a Gordon, McLemore, Rivers - has a history with Rivers so could maybe get him back up to speed - knows what the Clippers are running, which might come in handy - can bring some plays, strategies and such over from the Clippers who seem to know what they're doing
What is his relationship with Harden, Westbrook and DM like is the main question. IMO, they will not respond well to a super firm coach. Yet all three need leadership and to be told no, here and there. It’s going to take a very special person to pull and blend the team to a championship.
Leave him alone. He is doing just fine at UH. I see no reason to dump all this pile of crap Dantoni has created on him.
Not sure Tilman would want to damage one of his sports franchises to help another. Of course the Coogs do have a coach in waiting.
What is the fascination with hiring ex-players? Great, they played for the team and were good players. Astros fans: Go hire Biggio or Berkman or Bagwell to manage the team! Rockets fans: Go hire Vernon or Mario Elie or Sam Cassell or Kenny Smith or Shane Battier! Very rarely does it end with you not having to fire the guy. At least Texans fans haven't asked for Andre Johnson or David Carr or Matt Schaub or Jacoby Jones to be new head coach. No, I don't want an ex-player. Leave them in their "Special Adviser/Special Consultant" role. Cassell's been an assistant since 2009. How many teams have interviewed him? So the Rockets did in 2016 & 2011 but I can't find any other teams (but surely he's had to have, right?)
Sam has alot of respect among players. He is a Houston legend. He taught Nash aka Rook. He is the primary reason the Clippers became a respectable organization instead of the Knicks West. He as a player drug that team from being a **** sandwich Sam is smart and knows the game. I think he would be the perfect coach here. Rocket River
even if we get pop and rick carlisle as his assistant, can we really trust tellmin to put this team in the best possible position to succeed? better to have someone from the tillmen family to coach and gm after mda and mauri. that way at least we all would expect failure every year and be in the mix for a top pick every year until armageddon.
I used to say no because you can't understand anything he says. Marbles in his mouth. Gibberish. Nonsense. Then Ed O won a title. So... go for it. It'll be fun until Harden inevitably whines about something and pushes him out in 2 years.
Sam Cassell/Daryl Morey Because everybody knows any coach can't 100% coach the team without Morey pulling the strings. No GM in the NBA has a whole offense named after him
Sam and Mario. 7 years in the making... http://bbs.clutchfans.net/index.php?threads/the-perfect-coach-for-the-rockets-sam-cassell.233904/
