Highlights video is a highlights video. We can put together 100 good defensive plays by Ryan Anderson too. is that stat 16+ footers out to 3 or just within the arc? If it's within the arc, then it makes sense. You subtract the ones he's taking as stand-still catch and shoot, so he must be shooting damn near 25-30% on a shot that he never gets fouled on. Unfortunately these shots are NOT coming after the offense breaks down or late in the clock, he seems to think these are good to take in the first 10 seconds of the clock. Ryan has done his job this season. That's the only area where I expect him to be better for us. We need him to move the ball if the only shot he can take is a slow fadeaway jumper with no elevation and low conversion rate. I don't mind him taking them from 10-15 feet, I think he can NAIL those. But recently it has become a shot he takes from roughly 20 feet, and this team is packed with potent scorers. This could be something he learns as he matures, he can stand to turn those opportunities into assists or hockey assists.
I'm genuinely curious about how you can make that statement so definitively. It's not like those buildings/lights/whatever affect people uniformly or that the effect is logical. It affects some people, doesn't affect others. How could we specifically know if it's affecting Anderson or not or whether it should affect anyone at all?
Logically you are absolutely correct. It is just my belief that he can adjust because Ive seen a ton of players light up the toyota center with 3s so I assume that Anderson can because he isnt blind and seems to be just as able as everyone else. It is an assumption though. I was a philosophy major so I agree with your points about logic and it being impossible for me to make that assumption and be 100% correct. I mean im sure youve read about Marys room. For all we know ryan anderson can see the color green when other people have an experience of the color red. You are absolutely correct with your reasoning and skepticism of my assumption. All that being said, I still assume that its more likely that he misses at home more because of nerves/anxiety
It's funny you should say that because I actually typed out that he may just have an issue with the color red mentally, then I erased it cause I have no data to back me up. Would be super interesting to know if he shoots poorly in arenas where red is a primary color. Back on topic, I don't know if it's nerves or anxiety. But again, it could be that a random poor streak at home got into his head, and now that's causing anxiety. Whatever it is, I'm amazed that he can be averaging 40% overall despite the slump at home and we are an excellent home team. It worries me for the first round of the playoffs, but at the same time I'm very interested in how this could be a positive for us once we don't have homecourt advantage. Can we steal one of the first two games on the road against the Spurs if Anderson is shooting 45-50% on 7-8 attempts? That would be SWEET.
Ryan doing the dirty Dirk one legged..... We pay him to have one single breakout game in 20 or 30 games. Eager to watch for the postseason.
Yeah I definitely agree with your reasoning about what could be the problem with Anderson at home. Being skeptical of simple explanations and leaving open the possibility of more complex explanations is smart. I honestly just believe that if you have to choose a reason for his struggles at home than it is simpler and easier to explain it by assuming its nerves/anxiety. If you make a theory that his struggles are because of his unique perception of light and colors than you need to explain a lot more things. So many other factors need to line up for that to be a better theory. Occams Razor pretty much. I was at the home opener against Dallas and he seemed like he was trying to prove it too much. I mean he seems to try to get rebounds, muck it up, and bang in the paint more at home. On the road he just lets it fly. I assume that the grizzlies and playing at home are just in his head at this point. We all know that Zbo and Gasol are terrible matchups for him anyway.
I want him to rebound and play better defense. I can live with the misses. Ryan, Bev, and Ariza mess up the offense when the turn down wide open 3 pointers because they've missed 4 or 5 shots. So what, shoot the rock you will get your stroke and confidence back. Also, I would move Andersen to corner he kills their along with Ariza. Give their defenders something to think about.
Anyone else notice that Anderson wasn't on the floor towards the end of the game last night? Maybe it was a matchup issue, but his minutes have taken a slight dip since the all star break. Not sure what to make of it, but it's a little frustrating when the 2nd highest paid player isn't on the floor in big moments of big games.
When he's healthy he's got to pick his game up. If the Rox are going to be contenders he's got to be consistent.
At PF in D'Antoni's offense? ... no way. I think its going to be Dekker starting with Ariza moving over to the 4 with the bench unit. MAYBE they will bring up Wiltjer and bring him off the bench but I doubt it. Harrell isn't a 4 in D'Antoni's offense.
Since people like to bump this... So he guards Lebron 1 on 1 on several occasions and he got 1 deep 3 off on those matchups. But hey he compeltely sucks at defense
I don't know what LeBron was doing. He can drive past Anderson with ease. But he was hoisting up 3s. Whatever, still got the W.
