Since we have Zep, Beatles, Stones, and Who out of the way, I guess this would be the next logical comparison.
Dude...tough choice as those are two of my faves. Got to give the nod to Rush due to band longevity, being masters of touring, and number of albums made, though. Pink Floyd fell apart due to band bullsh_t involving creativity as Roger Waters wanted control and David Gilmour told him to go to hell basically. I do admit Dark Side of the Moon as an album is one of the best albums ever. Rush counters with 2112, Moving Pictures, and Permanent Waves. But, Dark Side is the best album out of both bands...hands down. Rush is the ultimate three piece musician's and cult fan's band, though. Rush cares about their fans. I never got that impression about Pink Floyd.
Rush. They still tour and sell out where ever they play, still have all original band members (yes, I know Neil wasn't an original, but you know what I mean...), and man for man I think are more talented musicians than Pink Floyd. I still love Pink Floyd though. Always loved David Gilmour's guitar work, especially his extended solos.
May be true...but Rush deserves their own chapter. There is a strong bias among certain camps against Rush for many different reasons...anything ranging from Neil's hard-on for Ayn Rand to Geddy's castrato voice to just plain bias due to looks. The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame has a bias against Rush that is completely obvious. There is no denying Rush are masterful musicians, however, and for that they deserve their own chapter. They outlasted so many bands and keep on going...and going...and going. Pink Floyd is more mainstream than Rush ever was or will be, though.
Rush is great, but Pink Floyd was on another level. They pretty much covered the whole spectrum of rock with opera's to jazz.
my first real concert was Floyd '94 so I will always go with the sentimental favorite. my brother was there for that one (Rice Stadium) and the Presto Tour and chose Floyd as well... By the way, which one's Pink?
I saw them on the Hold Your Fire tour at the Summit, and recently on the Snakes and Arrows tour here in Austin. They didn't disappoint either time. I like both a great deal, but if I could only keep one collection, it would have to be Rush.
I've never understood the Rush backlash. I can certainly see how they aren't everyone's cup of tea, but I just don't get the hate.
I definitely respect pink floyd for who they are and what they did... but Rush was such a huge influence to me... Plus being able to put out 40+ albums is a feat in itself.
