    Rogers close to signing

The Nets could be close to signing free agent forward Rodney Rogers to a two-year deal, sources have told ESPN. The deal could be worth between $2 million and $2.7 million. Rogers, who played last season with the Celtics, also is being pursued by the Timberwolves, but the nine-year veteran is leaning toward the Nets and the opportunity to play with Jason Kidd. A deal could be done in the next few days.

That would make their offseason additions:

    Mutombo, Childs and Rogers

While losing KVH and Todd Mac.

****, Thorn has done a very good job IMO, but they are throwing everything they have to win right now and hopefully keep Kidd in town

i think doing whatever it takes to convince Kidd to stay next year (by means of FA acquisitions and trades) is essential for this franchise... if Kidd bolts, the Nets progress is set back an immense amount and they may revert to their pre-Kidd god awful ways... Since the East is especially weak in recent years, this is the best time to make a run!

He's a good fit with the Nets. Now they've got a capeable sf/pf to come of the bench for Jefferson and K-Mart.

Yeah, Mutombo's deal will hurt them huge if Kidd bolts and he doesn't do all that well

Remember, he had a 15% trade kicker, so he's gonna make like $20 million a year now

I think they should start Rogers. They are gonna need his outside touch in the starting unit w/Martin & Mutombo throwing up all the bricks & Jefferson is still too young to be consistent.

good point Rogers might have to start. But they only lost 1 shooter-van horn, will it really affect them that much. Maybe. We'll see what the line up will be. If rogers does sign, they might have some line up problems. Maybe it would piss martin off and he will leave.

Rogers is a solid replacement for Van Horn and a definite boost to a weakened bench. He doesn't really have a defined role on this team, though; his game is similar to that of Van Horn's, to tell the truth.

However, his signing would be a plus for the Nets. That'll probably be the extent of their moves this summer, considering their MCE would be used up on Rogers and Childs, but it's a been a solid summer in an attempt to solidify themselves at the top of the East for one season.
