Please Read via laptop/computer. long post. When it comes to tanking some like it and some don't. Sometimes a team can draft their next star player and other times they whiff and tank again in hopes to drafting a star player. So, when I look at the roster there is no doubt in my mind that the tank should continue in the upcoming season (21-22). The reason is this, you got talent that is just not enough to win you a chip. Let me break it down it simpler terms. ask yourself this is this team enough to win a chip? Do you really trust wall and eg., to take you there? What im alluding to is this ,its best to be in the top 5 or bottom 5.If you in the top 5 you got a chance at a chip.If you a bottom 5 then you need to rebuild more. If you stuck in between 6 and bottom 6 for consecutive years you will be in mediocrity. Now if the Rockets were to make a push for the playoffs, what do you really expect the outcome to be? Tbh they would prob lose in the first round. I mean I like wood, but he got to put on weight, green defense still needs work and kpj defense is nonexistent, if you do not believe me look at the stats. In a nutshell just like I was saying in the previous season making a push for the playoffs is fool’s gold. Some things are about timing and right now it is not rockets time to be focusing on playoffs they really need to be focusing on building a strong sustainable core. The idea is this, if possible, you tank your way or let’s say you strategically maneuver your way to land a top5 pick next season. With this pick you target the best player available,or you could also trade up depending on who you like.
Such Rubbish!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2021 - 2022 will be a great season for the Houston Rockets. Only the true Rocket Fans will believe this and support our team. No season season 2000 - 2021 is worth a repeat! Y
Absolutely, it also guarantees that if two of your guys are on the fringe of being all Stars you can package them for a great player while they're on favorable deals. Once you decide to win there's no going back without messing up the culture (see Orlando). Let's make sure we have the assets in hand to build a finals team that has 2-3 elite creators surrounded by 4-5 players who can at minimum shoot and defend. FA's may still be skeptical to join us so we need to assume that we may not get our top tier franchise guy that way (and it rarely happens that way anyway).
The most logical timeline is be "top 4 pick" bad for the next two seasons. In the summer of 24, you should have 4-5 absolute studs as your core all still on rookie deals, except KPJ. In that offseason, the Gordon and Wall contracts will roll off and you should spend like crazy to nab 2-3 awesome players in free agency. Then that is your team and plan to be good just in time for your pick obligations to become due to OKC. Anything else is likely a mismanage of a rebuild.
If we try really hard next year, we could maybe get 30 wins. Tough to see more than that with a young squad. I think post all-star break it might be a solid option to put the cue in the rack and tank for bottom 5 (if not there already?). 44.7% chance at a top 4 pick from 5th worst (11.5% at pick 1). No real need to tank from the start, we should be bad enough. We have some talent that needs time to make mistakes and learn, looking forward to watching them grow. Hopefully they learn fast!!
In the meantime teams like the suns will be getting lucky winning asterixed titles and rings Rockets should have gone all in this season instead of tanking, its was a perfect time to win the title, the stars were aligned...
But go all-in with what? A team whose best players were Wall, Wood, Gordon, Oladipo and Tucker was never going to win anything. That team isn't close to being on the Suns level, or pretty much any of the top 6-7 best teams in the West. If they'd stayed healthy and gone "all-in" with a trade or two, they'd probably have ended up getting bounced in the play-in tournament and we'd all be wondering why they didn't just tank.
This. They have two seasons to take advantage of their own draft picks before OKC gets their picks in 2024 and 2026, unless they luck out again and draft in the top 4. And if we're in that same boat again in 2024, the rebuild is going very poorly. The next two seasons need to be about accumulating young talent with high draft picks so they're ready to build around that young core in two years once Wall amd Gordon are off the books. And, as others have mentioned, Houston should have no problem being terrible next year.
Still have anti tankers acting like tanking was a choice. We fking sucked, unless our number 2 pick comes out playing like lebron, don't b 2 surprise if we end up sucking once more.
Hate their contracts and their availability but it was hard to win when Gordon and Wall's 36 points a game went missing. Also subtract Wood's 20 points and you were left with a skeleton of a team during that "We play no contenders" part of the schedule. By then, Losing 20 in a row would have been deflating to any team's season. If healthy and the no.2 pick contributes , the Rox can win 30 ish games with minimum vets on the team. 10th pick. Hoping there is drama with the Nets, ain't no shook hands in Brooklyn. The faster that team crumbles the sooner Rockets fans can stop thinking about 'tanking' and just embrace the progression.
This draft is stronger than usual. Next one, too! Thrilled that we don't have to take a Ball. Or an Anthony Bennett.
All my tank gifs have been used. I opt for the team to try hardest first half season. If no bueno then consider options. Game threads were down to under 10 pages, hate to see it. With covid rules more laxed and a full training camp, the young core need to practice team defense. Switch, drop coverage, even a little zone. Develop familiarity and defensively communicate, Tucker not here no more. Current core needs to communicate on defense.
