Possible ref favoritism aside, the Warriors are unquestionably the best run NBA organization in the last 10 years. I look at their success being based on a few key concepts

    1. Self-less, passing basketball instead of selfish isoball, their team focuses on ball movement.
    2. Smart high IQ basketball players throughout the rosters, no dumbasses
    3. Not being cheap, they keep paying high luxury tax, even in the year they were the worst team in the league. Getting back D'Angelo Russell instead of letting Durant go for nothing got them Wiggins.
    4. Surrounding their one weak star defender (curry) with plus defenders throughout the roster

What does that mean for us?

    1. Rockets need to get rid of ballstoppers like KPJ, Wood and focus on players that are willing to pass the ball in order to find a better shot.
    2. Rockets need to once again get rid of KPJ who is a low IQ player, and all the other low IQ players. They are not conducive to winning, no matter how talented they are. Guys like Green, Sengun are keepers. Paolo is also supposedly a high-IQ player
    3. This is a tough one, Fertita is a cheap ass
    4. We desperately need lockdown defenders around Green, including at least one two-way player like Klay Thompson.

If you had said Celitics I would have agreed with you.

The warriors happened to draft the best shooter of all time and arguably another top 5 shooter of all time. Then there was a big cap increase and they signed one of the top 25 or so best players of all time. They also play in one of the wealthiest cities and have extremely wealthy ownership.

They have done well with player development/coaching/etc but most teams just have no chance of replicating what they've done and shouldn't be looking to them as a model. It's like looking at the MJ bulls and saying you should play like them. I mean sure, if you get the best SG of all time, it will work.

so it wasn’t a revolutionary post. Have great, smart, high bball iq players that aren’t useless defensively and don’t stop the ball entirely while your owner is willing to spend and you can win championship(s)!

But worth laying out some things that are indeed some commonalities among all championship teams.

and useful in the context of KPJ… who is truly the one player on the roster that is an enigma. I agree with his conclusion a probably best to move him … but I’m willing to give him more time.

It works because they have perhaps the 2 best shooters of all time, and the most unique defender of all time.

sounds simple and easy. it isn't.

And their blueprint won't be replicated anytime soon with how that team was contracted in this era. Rockets couldn't even find a "Draymond" when this team was actually contending. Let alone a goat shooter and probably a top 5 one next to him all in the same range of age. That doesn't even address the impact they have on opposing defenses when the ball isn't even in their hands

Warriors drafted 3 hall of famers and that’s the starting point. They paid the guys they had to, but let the guys they didn’t need go in free agency, like Barnes. They’ve always continued to draft good players (Kaminga) even when contending, as opposed to hawking picks for a short-term win-now mentality. They are not scared to make big forward thinking trades, even if it doesnt fit their personnel (DeAngelo) They have such a good org and coaching staff that player reclamation projects like Wiggins are successful, and their player development is top notch. Most importantly they have a great head coach and coaching staff.

We have a long way to go.

The Warriors have actually been pretty lucky despite the talent on their championship teams.

    Just to name a few:

    Pachulia injuring Leonard
Key injuries to Harden and Paul
Bad officiating the Warriors benefited from
27 consecutive 3s missed by the Rockets
Durant joining them after he couldn't beat them

They didn't even win the year they had the best record in NBA history. They could easily have fewer championships.

One thing I would like the Rockets to look at is the age range of their lineup.
They are not strictly on that "same timeline" box.
2-3 stars/building blocks in the same age or timeline is enough, I think.

So trading for Westbrook is not the blueprint and the exact thing we need to do?

Don't forget to have the largest and most popular fanbase in the world so NBA is pressured to give them ref favoritism every single regular season and playoff game.

Injuries happen EVERY year. No one can convince me the Bucks were not the best team going into the playoffs this year.

Nets have been an injury wreck, Nuggets injury wreck. Embiid gets his face smashed. Clippers would have been damn near unstoppable if healthy.

Now the 27 straight 3s... That's just trash coaching. It's why D'antoni will never win anything despite all that talent he has had over the years. Dude can't even get to the finals.

It is not easy to copy a blueprint. There are always a lot of factors, that are hard or impossible to copy:

    1. Get the right coach. Steve Kerr could have gone to the Knicks, he chose the warriors. Where do we find our Kerr?
    2. Be in a market, that marquee FAs want to be in.
    3. Have an owner, that is fine with paying big money in luxury tax
    4. Hit on your draft picks. And not just the lottery picks.

So sure, if we can get a great coach, get stars on late first round (or even second round) picks, and get an owner that embraces the luxury tax, I guess we would be a contender as well…

They got injured against the Raptors and had a 3-1 lead against Lebron.

They could also just as easily have 2 more.

So the Rockets will need an owner willing to spend 250 million in luxury tax. Damn guess we can't follow this blueprint. Anyone got a new plan?

The 27 missed 3s is also a myth, they made one plus got fouled blatantly on 4-5 others so it’s pretty dishonest to say that

is it possible to follow a blueprint of someone lightyears ahead of the entire league? I thought Joe Lacob was an incredibly stable genius?
