Stewart Udall died today. He was the last surviving cabinet member from JFK's administration and was a longtime champion of the environment, helping to strengthen national parks, and helping to pass the Wilderness Act, the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act, and the National Historic Preservation Act among others. I had the honor of meeting him a few years ago in Santa Fe. He was sharp to the end and extremely funny. He was, by all meassures, a great man.
