I’m going to Destin in Florida this Friday great …But more than that this is heartbreaking only 35 years old
Most likely a Riptide. 11 people have died at Florida beaches in the Panama City to Pensacola corridor in the last 10 days due to riptides. Too many people are going into the water when there is a double-red flag warning (which means stay out of the water). Talked to my dad (who lives in Pensacola) this morning and he said that every one of the deaths have been tourists. We were there last week and one day the water was really calm and nice and the next day it was a single-red flag day and was really rough. They've had a lot of double-red flag days lately.
Yeah we were in Destin two weeks ago and every day was a double red flag day except one which was still a single red flag. Lifeguards were hit or miss on actually enforcing it. Water was pretty rough.
Grew up on the Gulf Coast and learned about riptides early on. Was stationed at Fort Walton Beach which is between Pensacola and Panama City. Too many folks think they can beat or out smart the ocean. Mother Nature wins more than she loses. RIP Ryan.
