One of my favorite non-Astros players of all-time. This is so sad, especially when you check his Twitter timeline and see how excited and happy he was to own the very plane that would lead to his demise. That Icon A5 is a death machine......7 were made, 3 have crashed already. RIP Doc.
He was banned from flying planes under his mlb contract. Kind of sucks he is allowed to fly planes and he dies.
Hate small planes. Commercial planes have done pretty well safety wise, but way too many small plane crashes. Clemente (his was larger & he wasn't flying, but still), Munson, & Halladay...
There's something surreal and unsettling about domestic flights in smaller (but not tiny) older planes such as an Airbus A320 (and to some extent 737's) when you are super high up and look out the window to nothing but blinding whiteness. Then the plane inevitably starts shaking due to turbulence. Terrible feeling. I never feel that way on international flights though. Probably because they usually have bigger, more stable planes; e.g., 777's. I know statistics prove driving a car is more dangerous, blah blah blah. But two things: 1) there are a hell of a lot more cars than planes in use 2) I like being the master of my own fate (to some extent) and would rather be behind the wheel of a car than a passenger in a plane.
Terrible news. Sucks for the plane manufacturer as well. Their small company might be toast if it was due to plane malfunction.
Terrible news. This makes three pitchers in a year's time who've died in accidents. Life is precious.
Dying at a such a young age really sucks, I really hate posted this below. Spoilers and will hit the feels hard. Spoiler Edit: Spoiler picture
I have heard so many times over the years that Doc was such a great guy, a great friend, had a big heart, and most of all someone who really loved his family. My heart goes out to his wife and two kids. Just tragic.
No fear of commercial flights, but I would never ride in one of the smaller passenger planes. RIP, so young. Easy hall of famer.
