http://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/2010/11/28/comedy-legend-leslie-nielsen-dead/?test=latestnews Comedy Legend Leslie Nielsen Dead At 84 Published November 28, 2010 Canadian actor Leslie Nielsen, who most famously achieved global success in comedy movies such as "Airplane!" and "The Naked Gun," has died aged 84, Manitoba radio station CJOB reported Sunday. His death was first reported in unconfirmed messages on Twitter late Sunday that suggested the actor had died in the hospital after suffering from pneumonia. His nephew Doug Nielson, told CJOB that Leslie had been in the hospital in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida for 12 days and that with family and friends by his side at 5:30pm Sunday "he just fell asleep and passed away." Born in Regina, Canada, Leslie Nielsen appeared in more than 100 movies and hundreds of television shows over the course of his career. Awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, he was also made an Officer of the Order of Canada in 2002 despite also being a naturalized US citizen. He was married four times, and had two children from his second marriage, Maura and Thea Nielsen.
Wow . Jesus. He was one of my favorite actors from the Airplane and Naked Gun Series. We've lost a very very funny actor this weekend. RIP Leslie.
All of those post Naked Gun flicks were the Scary Movies of their day; but I guess he made the most of his latter career, especially monetarily. It still would have been nice to see him do some indie stuff. At least he postponed his producer, David Zucker, from making all those god-awful conservative propaganda commercials/films that he does now.
Don't ever call Leslie Shirley... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/LcKJdmXbBBc?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/LcKJdmXbBBc?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
dont normally participate in RIP threads, but this man made me laugh so many times over the years I can not ignore it. The best gift someone can give another is the gift of laughter, real honest laughter from deep down...this is what Leslie Nielsen has given to me uncounted times over the years I have had the pleasure of viewing him in movies. I will be eternally thankful RIP
STRIKE?!?!?!?!?!?!!?!?!?!?! + Que En Paz Descanse. I just want to tell him good luck. We're all counting on him.
The entire Naked Gun baseball scene was one of the funniest movie parts in the past 25 years. I first watched that movie with no expectations at all, not like some old silver haired man was gonna appeal to a kid. But came away laughing my butt off, even after watching it again and again. RIP, Leslie. Thanks for helping me appreciate absurdity and randomness.
RIP. I know its macabre but I almost wished that when he told people that he had to go to the hospital if anyone asked "Hospital? What is it?" He said "its a big building with a lot of beds but that's not important right now."
They say it started with a slight fever. Then a dryness in the throat. As the virus penetrated the red blood cells he became dizzy and began to experience a rash and itching. From there the poison worked its way into the central nervous system causing severe muscle spasms, followed by the inevitable drooling. At this point, the entire digestive system was rendered useless, causing the complete collapse of the lower bowels, accompanied by uncontrollable flatulence...until finally the poor b*stard was reduced to a quivering, wasted piece of jelly. For our second date, Mrs. SwoLy and I watched "Spy Hard" at the movies. There was a couple just above to the right of us, and the dude was laughing so much at the scenes, and the girl was not even moved by the funny stuff. We'll never forget that.
Well he was a classic leading man in the 50's & 60's. He was the lead in the Sci-Fi classic Forbidden Planet. The movie that introduced Robbie the Robot. He was in a slew of movies and TV shows as a serious actor for years before he went into comedy. What a great actor.
