Every summer I ask myself, "what the **** am I doing here?" I think that's part of being a Texan now, so maybe this second-guessing is what makes the Cali transplants true Texans.

With the state trying to push Christianity in schools, I question why I’m still here as I plan on having my first child.

I’ll need my support network of family and friends though so I’m stuck.

Sounds like these people ordered a Heineken and got a Budweiser instead. Thanks T-Mac.

    City/scene was oversold and under-delivered.
Texas weather is well the weather.
BREAKING NEWS: It’s hot in Texas! More on this developing story at 10.
“but but but it’s never been this hot!”

Promised a “tech job”. All I got was this customer service/sales job!
Promised good food, good weather, good live music. I got none of it!
    The museums sucks!
    The traffic sucks!

Only Texans who have never traveled think Texas is better than California.

Austin is the best city in TX and it would barely make the top 10 in Cali.

The weather Texas will be getting is enough to make a cactus sweat, but Cali has now-uninsurable wildfires and earthquakes on the horizon...

If you can afford a house and the cost of living, then Cali is great, which is why the article mentioned tech workers only.

If I were to skip town, I'd deeply look into Western parts of NY like Rochester or Buffalo (meh). Great Lakes region seems kinda trashy though environmentally stable. In that sense, Chicago is a sleeper. Nice town (the parts I visited) and the population is declining for now.

Depends on how decent the Asian food is there.

Nah, Austin is better than Sacto or Riverside :D

Will only get harder to leave with kids in the frame. Leave now, and maybe you can draw a grandparent to the new location. They're probably as fed up with Texas as the rest of us. I'm at the tail end of parenting and say stuff like: kids have a good school right now, they'd have to make friendships all over, I don't have the good career connections elsewhere I have here, I'd leave friends I've had for decades, parents are getting old, so maybe when I retire. Find the right town when you're young.
