I thought there was a thread about this recently, but I can't search. I'm reformatting my PC and tired of having to find cracked software. I was wondering if there is a freeware alternative to Nero? Also, any other recommended freeware would be great.
Reformatting your PC requires Nero? Edit: rereading it, are you talking about freeware in general? As in, you've reinstalled Windows, your PC is now a clean slate, and you need new software? I think CloneCD is free. There are some other open source-y ones I don't remember off the top of my head. I suggest checking the shownotes of dl.tv or Tekzilla, you'll likely find something there.
Which parts of Nero do you use? That might be helpful to know when suggesting a replacement. I gave up Nero a couple of years ago, and there are a few different programs to replace parts of Nero -- although nothing that matches it feature for feature. I also recently installed Ubuntu Linux on my laptop, dual booting with Windows Vista. After getting the wireless to work, I really like it. I'm using it as I speak...um...type.
Same here, except I'm running Vista as the main OS and Ubuntu as a virtual machine. Ubuntu is a worthy mainstream OS IMHO.
Funny I'm looking for a good Nero alternative myself. I've tried a couple free options with no luck so far. CDBurnerXP nearly completes the burn and then gives an error about the array being out of bounds. Infrarecorder keeps telling me to insert a blank CD (even though there is a blank CD in the tray)
