Maybe not, but it can sure stop the bleeding when teams double KD and stop the collapsing. IME is clueless he is not a quality coach, and he has fake integrity......the emperor has no clothes. DD
You have the most efficient scorer of all time, who is still among the top two or three most efficient scorers in the league and you want Reed as the number 1 option? You do yourself and Reed fans such a disservice with these hyperbolic rants.
Let me explain why, maybe you don't understand the thinking. Yes, because if you put the ball in Reed's hands he has the best Assist to Turnover ratio on the entire team of those that play, and he wouldn't turn the ball over late like KD does game after game because he can't beat a double team with his lethargic passing. I would want KD moving off the ball or someone setting a screen for him for Reed to hit letting Durant hit that sweet Middie....off the catch instead of him working so hard on a dribble against 2 more athletic players. Reed is best at finding the open shot, and has the most competent handle of the rotational players. DD
bad game fersure. it happens. Everyeone except amen and Jabari lpayed terrible Just has to hit his open 3s. Period. One variable is we don't let him dictate the offense as much anymore, more of a corner 3 shooter
People should quit using that stupid +- stat. Tari was one of two that was positive. Amen was -9 ridiculous. That being said DD is so google-eyed for Reed, he is living in an alternative reality.
Reed’s going to be a good player, but not anywhere near the stratosphere some on this board believe. He certainly won’t start next season until FVV inevitably gets hurt.
I think its silly to give up on his potential, he's a 2nd year player that barely played the first season. He's going to have bad games, he's going to have good games, he's still trying to learn what he can do and what he can get away with at this level and also not step on toes of players that are above him on the shooting hierarchy on the team. His growth is sort of blocked by that, this isn't like getting Jalen Green and letting him do whatever he wants to do, he's having to come in and play big minutes on a playoff team, so there is a leash on him that other top picks usually don't have but the skills are there, the talent is there. He looked really good when we started him and the team looked really good when he started but we're stuck with a super stubborn coach that doesn't react to trends or patterns at all.
i don't think people realize how hard it is to get in a rhythm especially with shooting off the bench. at least half of his misses were in and out. Reed had lots of momentum this season and when it was clearly time to start him, he was benched.
To me he's still a rookie since we redshirted him last year. I also wonder what he'd look like with a good coach and capable teammates as opposed to Ime and his bricklayers. Is he the next Steve Nash? It's possible but unlikely. Can he be the next Payton Pritchard? Certainly. Reed, Amen, Sengun, Bari - these are very good players. So are Fred and Steven. You pair them with a legend like Durant, you can see why everyone picked us to be in the WCF when we traded for him. But you can't get by with no Fred, no Steven, and completely empty minutes from Tari and DFS - which is to say, you're still good enough to make the playoffs, but you're no threat to anyone. Reed is fine and will get better. But you need more guards and wings plus a better coach.
I don't like classifying him as a rookie since it's just objectively untrue. You just need to add context as to why the 3rd overall pick played incredibly spotty and limited minutes his rookie season. Now, who really gives a **** how you classify him, you do whatever you want obviously. I agree with the rest of the post though, it's very tough to draw any type of reasonable conclusions from his play due to the fact that the team build and the coaches rotation are sorely lacking. And this absolutely is not a call to build the team around Reed, merely saying a basketball team in this day and age that is built of poor shooters (and lack of ball handlers) is tough to glean any meaningful info from.
He really does suck at defense. He needs to hit those clutch shots to stay relevant. More and more, I’m starting to believe my first instinct about Reed being a career sharp shooter off the bench was accurate. I still think he should start the rest of the year to at least see what to expect going into next year.
