According to a poll by ABC News/Washington Post, if Joe Biden is the nominee, then 15% of Bernie Sander's backers will vote for President Trump, 80% will vote for Joe Biden. It is not clear what the other 5% would be inclined to do. Perhaps they would stay home.

Poll: 15% of Sanders supporters will vote for Trump if Biden is nominee; 80% would back Biden

If former Vice President Joe Biden secures the Democratic presidential nomination, 15% of Sen. Bernie Sanders' supporters will vote for President Donald Trump's reelection, according to an ABC News/Washington Post poll.

Of course they might change their minds between now and November. But even if they do not ultimately vote for Trump, they certainly could just stay home. All of which are good reasons for the Democrat party regulars to refrain from being seen to unnecessarily undermine or disrespect Bernie Sanders between now and election day.

All of this is of course assuming that Joe Biden will be the nominee at this point, although he still has a ways to go to secure the nomination.

I suspect that they are just digging in against the Democrat establishment and that most of them will not ultimately vote for Trump. The way that Sanders has been treated by the Democrats and the establishment media - again - has been disgraceful. So who can blame them.

If they are smart, they will make no further moves to provoke these people. While they probably will not ultimately vote for Trump, it is not hard to imagine them staying home and not voting.

Joe Biden does not think the Democrat party convention will be held. Instead, maybe remote voting to affirm the nominee?

Perhaps Joe will record his acceptance speech in his basement on his webcam, if he goes on to win the nomination. Who knows?

In any case, the real purpose of these gatherings is to hold a big pep rally and to get everyone united and fired up for the contest ahead. If there is no convention, enthusiasm will probably have to be generated some other way.

The Democrats have postponed their convention until August 17, two weeks before Labor Day, which is the traditional kickoff day for the final stretch of the general election contest which ends with the election in November.

Democratic National Convention postponed to August due to coronavirus concerns

The Democratic National Convention will be postponed until August due to coronavirus concerns, planners said Thursday, in a historic and stunning change to the presidential election calendar.

The convention committee said the event will be held the week of Aug. 17, in Milwaukee, Wis. It was originally slated for July 13-16.

Presumably this will provide the Republicans with the opportunity to conduct their convention the last week of August, as the party in power normally hold their convention last.

    Bernie Sanders is out.

Bernie Sanders suspends his presidential campaign

Bernie Sanders is suspending his 2020 presidential campaign, ceding the Democratic nomination to Joe Biden after a string of losses last month crippled his campaign.

A spokeswoman for Bernie Sanders is publicly suggesting that the Democrats may be working to replace Joe Biden as the nominee for the party. Of course she is not the first person to call attention to this possibility.

'It's coming': Bernie Sanders spokeswoman speculates Democrats are planning to replace Biden

A spokeswoman for Bernie Sanders’s presidential campaign claimed Democrats could replace Joe Biden before the 2020 election, citing his mental acuity.

“Bernie was too kind to go after Biden, but it's coming,” Briahna Joy Gray tweeted early Thursday morning. “Either Dem leadership cares more [about] maintaining a corporate status quo than getting rid of Trump, or they're planning to replace Joe — adopting a pretty fast and loose relationship w/ representative Democracy.”

Gray shared a clip of Fox News host Tucker Carlson questioning 77-year-old Biden’s mental capacity. “Ask yourself, is Joe Biden ready to lead this country? Could he find his car in a three-tiered parking garage? Could he navigate a salad bar? And by the way, what exactly is his position on the coronavirus pandemic? Those are the mysteries Democrats now face,” Carlson said.

If they do that and the replacement is not Bernie Sanders, that may not go over very well with many Democrat voters. Also, it may not be credible for them to continue to operate under the 'Democratic' banner if they go this route. A name change for the party may be called for in this case.

Not all Sanders supporters are democrats. And they aren't all Never Trumpers. It should surprise no one that some people who would go to the polls for Sanders are not willing to take some other Democratic nominee as a replacement. Besides which, there is always some attrition from every primary where people who voted in a Democratic primary turned around and voted for a Republican in the general, and vice versa. Point being, these people are not traitors or fifth column. Neither do you have to walk on eggshells to not offend them like @MojoMan would say. They don't owe anyone loyalty. They are voters casting the votes they want to cast.

#1....Democratic would not replace Biden. Obama would not let them. You say Obama has no power? Let someone try that. Obama could blow up the party's chances at beating Trump.
#2...The establishment would never choose Sanders.
    #3...Sour grapes from a Bernie b****.

Have to wonder , if they do replace Biden and it's not Bernie .... who would it be ?

How would Dem voters feel about something like that ? I'm sure a good majority would support the Dem nominee no matter what but I'm sure others would be angered by the destruction of the process.

I don't think they can do something like this and not alienate voters for pissing on the nomination process - They are married to Biden for better or worse.

I beginning to realise Bernie did not have a competent election staff, How is somebody like this his national press secretary.

This is why a lot of voters did not take Berny seriously all of this talk about Democratic leadership and corporations gets tired.

Some of these staffers are just trying to milk there 15 minutes IMO.

With a better staff he is probably the nominee, what he did after Nevada and SC killed him.

I browsed her twitter a bit. She's very combative, and has spent a lot of energy tweeting about Biden's sexual assault allegations. As for this particular tweet though, it doesn't look to me like she's referencing any kind of inside information on what the party is thinking about doing. She's insinuating that Biden has so many flaws -- which the Sanders campaign refrained from attacking -- that they will eventually be forced to run a different candidate because of his lack of viability. I don't believe for a second that they will have to. If somehow he was forced out, I expect it'd be his VP pick that takes up the torch. Needless to say, if it's not Biden on the ballot in November for the DNC, Trump is definitely winning re-election. Why a Sandernista would want to get back Bernie on the ballot in some late-stage shuffle after losing the nomination only to get trounced for the illegitimacy of his selection and the complete disarray of the party -- I don't know, I don't get it. Democrats are committed now. It's Biden or Bust.

The idea that Biden will be replaced has been circulating for weeks since Biden won overwhelmingly in Michigan. It has been advanced by some of Sanders most ardent supporters including people like Cenk Unger, Krystal Ball and Saager Enjetti. It's also been pushed by many on the Right too.

And I can GUARANTEE that it won't happen because Obama will not let it. And if u don't think Obama doesn't have the power, well, try to win the General Election without Obama's support.
