Gran Torino (90%) Great film. It was funny and moving. If I truly connect with a character enough in a film to care about what happens to him thats all I need to be impressed. Spoiler The acting from the supporting cast wasn't exactly "great" but thats just nitpicking giving that they needed specific actors to portray the Hmong family, and I did think the whole death scene was a tad over the top, so this wasn't a flawless film... but It was entertaining, heart-felt and hilarious.
Princess Mononoke Award winning anime. 4 out of 5 stars. (perhaps agree to a rating system in the OP next time? I'm going with the netflix rating system) Quite long, but worth it. It was very good. The story was more interesting than expected, but mostly what I wanted to see was the animation and artwork which was mostly outstanding. It was a bit jumpy in terms of the subject matter at certain times, and as anime goes, it did have a certain speed racer quality to it in certain scenes, but the backgrounds and effects were simply amazing, and some of the better moments had animation that rivals any I've seen. Overall, very good, with a nice theme/moral and interesting characters.
Ghost Town (75%) - Manages to stay funny and maintain a solid pace throughout. Ricky Gervais (of BBC's "The Office") is gold. It does get a little touchy-feely in the last act, but it was well done. I was pleased overall. I'm not compiling data for a research project here. I'd prefer everyone to express their opinion on their own terms.
Good Night, and Good Luck (82%) - A friend of mine hyped it up a little too much, and when I finally got around to watching it this weekend I was a little underwhelmed by it. That said, it was still quite entertaining, expertly written and acted (especially David Strathairn as Murrow), and moves at a great pace. Recommended if you like movies with a healthy dose of social commentary.
Title: Push Rating: 7.99/10 The movie started off great, great build up of the history of these people with powers. The ending was very bland and lackluster, I didn't want to take a full quarter grade from this movie because I feel that if they made a prequel, it would be very good.
Defiance--5/10 its probably a lot better than that but I was not in the mood to watch that movie and all that happened before getting to the theater that i was just not in the mood to see a serious/sad movie and so i was tuned out of this really early. Fanboys 7/10---at times had corny moments but it was pretty funny esp if you are a star wars fan. Also a HUGE plus was possibly seeing Kristen Bell's butt (I am not sure if its here but I would wager that its a body double) but then also seeing Kristen Bell in the slave leia outfit. Also there was a strange twist to the movie that I wasnt really expecting from the movie that made it better (at least i didnt see from the poster or trailer of the movie) i think fanboys is in limited release though
WW2 kick this weekend. Letters from Iwo Jima. 5/5 - Great, I'll probably rewatch it soon, the movie hits so many emotions (good and bad). It was a pleasure to watch. Das Boot. 4/5 - Great as well, but automatic deduction for being 3h38m long. Same film could have been made w/ about 40 minutes less. The Good German. 3/5 - Big letdown, won't specify, but unless this was a true story, there should have been some revisions to the story. Oh, and 10 minutes of Spiderman 3. 1/5 stars, because I don't know how to give 0 on Netflix. This movie is terrible.
Saw maybe half of Max Payne. There were quite a few actors making an appearance in this film. Not a-listers, but I see them nonetheless and it becomes distracting when the plot isn't going anywhere. I didn't like the effects of 300 and Sin city, and it's worse when a movie like this comes along trying to copy the style just for the sake of copying it. Just a boring turd when all I was expecting was some mindless action. 0/10 Eden Lake. Another kind of slasher/torture flick. It wasn't that bad but it really isn't my kind of movie. And once it got going it became kind of predictable. 5/10
Zach and Miri Make a Porno - 8.5/10 I was really glad that this movie lived up to my expectations. Normally, this type of movie just lets me down, but I was very happy with this one. I laughed out loud quite a few times.
I was just about to post about this movie too, saw it this weekend. Pretty good, the scene with Justin Long was amazingly hilarious. 8/10
Conspiracy (1991) - 8/10 it's about THE meeting amongst 15 German officials and commanders that ultimately lead to Hitler's "final solution". it's eerie how one guy basically persuaded 14 other officials to agree to exterminating the jews because they were taking up too much space. the strange part was the actors spoke English and use their american accents. but it didn't take away from the movie.
I agree completely. This movie was great. The scene when Eastwood confronts the two black guys is absolutely hilarious.
The Mexican (67%) - Forced to watch it by my girlfriend...wasn't half bad. I think it ran a little too long, but it had a good twist or two and some funny parts. Not memorable and is not something I would own on DVD, but not terrible either.
hmmm, I was pretty disappointed, I didn't find it that funny. Maybe its just cause I saw it around the same time I saw Role Models and that was epic or because I hate Seth Rogan.
I didn't really read the review you had written, but I am intrigued and fascinated with how you came up with these specific percentages. Do you have a panel of critics in your head like Rotten Tomatoes?
Dang, is it really that hard to understand? It's the same exact thing as rating a movie, game, or even a girl on a 10 point scale...just move the decimal over. When someone says "oh, that girl's about a 7.5" do you say "really...I'm intrigued and fascinated with how you came up with that specific rating"?
