    A two car race and one car broke down at mile 15.
    74 has a significance to this town.

    It's my hometown, Galesburg. 1899.

    I first read this in a book my brother sent me on Saturday. It actually said this was the first automobile race ever, period. I couldn't believe that, and it is quickly proven wrong, as the Smithsonian even acknowledges Chicago as the first race. Don't know why the author claimed that. So, I'm somewhat skeptical of the facts, except for the fact no one here named an earlier date, either.
