R.J. Hunter is one of the best if not the best pure shooter in this years draft. We shoot the most amount of 3's. I think it's pretty obvious we need better shooters. He's a pure 6'5 SG in the mold of Klay Thompson. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eKGKa0qz1h8 Embed was disabled. Da Faq.
He shot horribly this year. 39.5% FG and 30.5% from 3, but he was good last year. He also has a 6' 9.5 wingspan with play-making skills on D. He has a quick shot with a low release, but I do like his stroke. I think he'll be a nice player. Nbadraft has him at 26 right now and Draftexpress has him at 24. I would be happy if we drafted him.
Streaky year long slumps scare me. Would rather go for Booker who actually shot a great percentage. Or else Jo Young if we are trying to fill Terry's role.
RJ Hunter w/ that 8'8 standing reach Plays as big as an SF but has the skills of combo gaurd, BIG BIG RJ Hunter fan, and this only gives me more conviction. I think his game warrants the Klay Thompson comparisons that Devin Booker has been getting. Booker's got average measurements at best.
he reminds me of klay thompson to be honest... people thought klay wasnt athletic and had no handles coming out of washington state too he would be a steal at 18, either he or devin booker
In my opinion Booker is much much better prospect than Hunter. I consider Hunter a glorified chucker with terrible shot selection and I hope to god that neither my Bucks or the Rockets draft him.
I definitely disagree, but if he reminds you of Korver, why would you be a "big seller" of him? Getting Kyle Korver lite at #18 would be fantastic.
Korver doesn't carry the ball upcourt. The Rockets need a true PG who can also shoot. I like Korver, of course, for the role he plays with ATL.
from Kevin Pelton R.J. Hunter, SG, Georgia State Consensus: 2.2 WARP | Big Board: 21 | WARP: 6 Kentucky's Devin Booker has stolen Hunter's shine as the best prospect among the shooting specialists in this draft. While Booker was far more accurate last season, projections that factor in all three seasons Hunter played at Georgia State suggest he'll eventually be the better NBA 3-point shooter because of his superior free throw percentage.
The Rockets have a ton of directions they could go, but trading down to get this kid could be an interesting decision...RJ Hunter has the shooting to be dynamic...If RJ works on his handles a lot this summer, he can be a really interesting prospect.
He's all arms and legs, looks much taller. He moves like Durant. Although i'm not sure that's a good or bad thing, just an observation....He's a coach's son, right? Plays like it, which i think makes him an interesting pick. Could turn out to be really solid.
These are all still shots from one of his workouts. Does this reflect a low-release shot?????? I'll admit I haven't really been interested in this kid because I thought the same thing....low release, non-athletic, etc. But I started studying his release. Here's the deal. It's smooth and very, very quick. It looks like he's releasing it low. But he ain't. He's got a great release. Now...I'm by no means sold on this kid. Just something I don't like about his on-court demeanor. Can't quite nail it down. I think it probably has to do with being entitled as the son of the coach. A lot of shots he took ..... he shouldn't have took. He won't have the privilege in the NBA and if he tries it he'll get sat down. So, I'm not sure about this kid. But.....he's got a legit jump shot. And he's got great range on it. And he's got a quick release. I'm getting sold on his jump shot.
The question is his shot selection and his bball iq. Is he a chucker? I think yes. But maybe a good coach can coach the selfishness out of him.
I almost made a thread on this guy yesterday but I didn't have time to make sure there wasn't one already. I'm a huge fan of this guy and think he would be a hand-in-glove fit for us as a sniper off the bench. Until this week I was cool with taking Tyus at 18 but if this guy is still on the board I really feel he has the higher overall potential due to his elite shooting.
