If somebody "power dribbles" in the paint (i.e. using both hands to dribble the ball at the same time) that is a double dribble violation correct?

If its just one dribble, then I think its legal. If its after the first dribble, yes it would be double-dribble.

I don't think so, I thought it was illegal to dribble the ball with both hands regardless of your position on the floor.

I've always assumed it was okay, if you do it once. For example, you receive the pass. I'm assuming you catch it with two hands.

I think my interpretation is correct. One dribble is allowed, but after touching the ball with both hands simultaneously you are not allowed to dribble again.

I play like 3 times a week and I don't think I've ever seen someone dribble the ball with 2 hands in the paint.

Sort of reminds me of what Otis Thorpe use to do ...or at least it looked like two hands before he went up for a power dunk.

Legal play. Again, only one dribble.

Hmm......maybe it is one of those things that isn't called, but I still question the legality.

The guy missed the shot anyways.

Its a clear-cut legal play. Why do you think its even debatable?

If you catch the basketball, are you saying you must grip the ball with a single hand before starting your dribble?

100% legal. I've used this move all the time in high school and all organized sports.

    No.

    Your misunderstanding me.

Here is what I'm talking about:

Player A is backing down Player B. Player A uses both hands to "power dribble" in the lane to get around player B after backing him down.

From your original post it wasn't really clear what you were trying to say.

If you have already started backing down your opponent with a dribble, then you can't use the power dribble, making it an illegal move. Power dribble can only be used if it is your only dribble.
