    2. Kings
    3. Mavs
    4. Spurs
    5. Jazz
    6. Blazers
    7. Suns
    8. Rockets

Rockets acheive the biggest upset in NBA history.

Game 1: Rockets lose 111-78. They can't believe the huge margin of the depressing loss as they gather together in the locker room after the slaughter. Shaq has just gone of for 54 and 21, and Kobe had 36 and 8. They look at each other in disbelief, doubting their abilities as a team. A disappointed Rudy T. takes a hard look in the eyes of each and every Rocket. "So what do you guys think is the problem?" he says quietly. "We need to step our intensity up to a whole nother level," says Francis firmly. "We need to make them give us respect." Mumbles of agreement from his teammates follow. "We need to change our outlook," Mobley follows, not looking up from his hands that had just shot 2-15. "We just have to contain Shaq," Moochie points out, "and believe in ourselves." Then, a loud, firm voice spoke up from the back of the locker room, and voice that had rarely ever been heard.

"I'll do it," stated Kelvin Cato. "I will lead us to the promised land."

The Houston Rockets go on to win 3 straight games against the defending world champions, and advance to the second round in the Compaq Center. Kevin has limited Shaq to 17 points in 3 games, and had 13 blocks and 29 rebounds in the 3 games. Amidst all the confetti and excited cheering, Steve Francis notices Kelvin Cato standing across the court. Eyes shining, Francis mouthes "Thank you," to him, and Cato just smiles. They never knew I had it in me, he thought. And then the tears came.

Houston Rockets are the 2001-2002 NBA Champions. How sweet it is.

Never underestimate the heart of any Rockets. They have it somewhere deep in them, even if it's not known.

Finalsbound: Thank you so much for making the last half hour of my work day worth a crap. Not only was that really funny, but I think it is the deep-down dream of every Rockets fan. We totally want the big fella to do good, to prove to everyone he wasn't/isn't the 42 million dollar mistake. Maybe if we the fans keep the faith, cheer for him just as loud as the beloved Franchise and Cat, he won't be a mistake and he will prove everyone wrong.

    Have a great weekend all...

Aww you're just saying that because I picked Denver to make the playoffs! [IMG] Seriously, I think Denver would have made the playoffs last year if McDyess hadn't gotten injured, or would have gotten close. And I think Kevin Willis, and the addition of Avery Johnson, gives them veteran stability. If they can get a 3rd scorer, somebody who can be a 3rd go-to guy and give them 13 to 15 ppg, then I think they're a lock to make the playoffs, health withstanding.

    1) Lakers - The best team, and they improved over the off-season.
    2) Kings - They also improved by leaps and bounds, no clue how they'll do in the playoffs though.
    3) Spurs - Got worse. Bowen is a scrub, Smith's knees are shot.
    4) Rockets - What? They have the ability.
    5) Mavericks - Good team.
    6) Jazz - They quit last year in the playoffs.
    7) Minnesota - Garnett is really good, so is Brandon when healthy.
    8) Denver - McDyess is a legitimate star.

The Suns will be below average. The Blazers will implode. The East is irrelevant.

That's a great point. Phoenix has slipped badly, but even though I have Portland as a 5 seed, I can see them self-destructing and falling to an 8 seed or missing the playoffs.

Who cares where we finish...as long as it's in the top 8...we won our 2 championships never finishing first in the west...it's all about matchups in each round. We need to start the following to be effective:

    PF-GRIFFIN
    PG-FRANCIS
    C -CATO
    SG-MOBLEY
    SF-MORRIS

6TH MAN FOR OFFENSE - LANGHI
    6TH MAN FOR DEFENSE - ???

SIGN AND TRADE MO TAYLOR TO WASHINGTON FOR ETAN THOMAS & LOREN PROFIT.
IF WE CAN'T RESIGN HAKEEM THEN IT'S A SIGN AND TRADE OPITION...WE HAVE TO GET SOMETHING FOR HIM!

    STARTING LINEUP:
    PG Steve Francis
    SG Cuttino Mobley
    SF Shandon Anderson
    PF Maurice Taylor
    C Hakeem Olajuwon

    BENCH (and IR):
    PG Moochie Norris
    PG Sean Colson
    SG/SF Dan Langhi
    SF Walt Williams
    SF Terence Morris
    SF/PF Eddie Griffin
    SF/PF Matt Bullard
    PF Kenny Thomas
    C Kelvin Cato
    C Jason Collier
(this roster is subject to change - hopefully)

    WEST:
    1. LA Lakers (better than last year)
    2. San Antonio (wins the Midwest, gets the #2 spot automatically)
    3. Sacramento (2nd best record in West, ready to make a run)
    4. Dallas (a year older and wiser, could make some noise)
    5. Portland (players revere Mo Cheeks; make it on talent alone)
    6. Utah (the best-run offense in the league, little talent)
    7. Houston (this year's Mavericks)
    8. Minnesota (KG takes them to the playoffs on his shoulders)

    9. Phoenix (Marbury is no Jason Kidd)
    10. Seattle (Payton impacts playoff race if he's not traded)
    11. LA Clippers (much improved; will make a run next year)
    12. Denver (damn, the West is good; could make playoffs in East)
    13. Golden State (injuries + Hughes at PG = disaster)
    14. Memphis ("expansion-ism" all over again)

    EAST:
    1. Philadelphia (Larry Brown is the league's best coach)
    2. Milwaukee (the only good team in a crappy division)
    3. Orlando (IF Hill, Ewing, and Grant can stay healthy)
    4. Toronto (has talent; better show results)
    5. Charlotte (had a legit shot at the Finals last year)

Everyone else (barring a healthy Alonzo Mourning in Miami) is mediocre at best.

Looking at these rankings tells you how GOOD the West is. I'm pretty sure all 8 teams that made it could be in top 2 in the East

I think the rockets will be anywhere from the 6-8 spot this year. In a 2-3 years I think we'll be one of the top 4 teams in the west.

But the players I think we definitely need to keep together for at least the next 4-5 years are:

    PG - Franchise, M. Norris
    SG - Cat, S. Anderson(also SF)
    SF - Langhi, Trock
    PF - Mo, E. Griffin(also C), K. Thomas
    C - Cato

slowly building respect at the cost of my complements!

tolpatch (dont even wanna try and spell the 2nd part....damn why cant you just be tol or something [IMG]) : you are also cool...equally as cool as rocksmillenium.

anyone wanna throw denver at 7? you can be extra cool! (although not as cool as i)
