Wink... I think you are being a little to generous to the Paper Clips. They'll be close but not a 6 seed. I think if the Rockets resign all their free agents (including Hakeem or find a viable replacement for Hakeem like Camby, Keon, or Lafrentz) I think the West looks like this:

    1) Fakers (they're too good)
    2) Mavericks (they aren't this good but I think they'll win the midwest giving them this seed)
    3) Sac-town (with a better record than the Mavs)
    4) Spurs (No DA = NO D!)
    5) Blazers (if they don't resign Strickland)
    6) Rockets
    7) Jazz (this will finaly be the year they show thier age)
    8) T-Wolves (Flip Saunders is a damn good coach)

I agree the winner of the west will win it all and I think the 4-7 seeds will have extremely close records. I'm fine with finishing 6th... remember what happened last time we did?? [IMG]

Paper Clips will finish 9th in the west by two games and Phoenix will miss it by one. DAMN That's a great conference.

Rocketball... that's the kind of optimism that makes Rocket's fans great. Props man... true props. I'm changing my picks too... Rockets are going to be the 2001-2002 NBA Champs!

As I have nailed it the last 2 years...in fact was completely right on last years record, and only 1 game off the previous year.

I will withold my predictions until I see the makeup of this years team.

    5) Mavs
    6) Jazz

IMO, these 6 teams are virtually locks for the 2002 playoffs in the West.

The Rockets, Wolves, Suns, and yes the Clippers will battle it out for the final two spots.

Each team added someone new to the mix
    Rockets - Eddie Griffin
    Wolves - Joe Smith
    Suns - Stephon Marbury
    Clippers - Elton Brand

I don't know what's going to happen but it will be interesting.

The Sonics, who swept the Lakers last season, stun the defending champs in the first round, winning the series in four games. Meanwhile, the Rockets defeat the Blazers in five, thanks to a game winning dreamshake at the buzzer.

The Kings go on to make the finals, defeating the Rockets in 7 in the western conference finals. The Sixers then sweep the Kings in four blowout games.

If Jordan comes back and gets a nice supporting cast you can slip Washington into the postseason.

I think the Spurs will be about 5 games better than the Lakers. The Lakers had a great playoff run. But that was mostly dependent on chemistry, teamwork, and all the other intangibles they had going for them after a year's work. Do you really think, after six months off, that the Lakers will step on the floor with that same chemistry and intensity? Do you think Shaq and Kobe can make it through a season without fighting? Imho, the Lakers talent level is about the same as when they won the championship. The Spurs have gotten better. They were a better regular season team last year, and I think they will be this year too. However, they will lose in the Finals... [IMG]

Would someone explain to me how the Clippers go from 20 games under .500, third worst record in the West, 9 games from even tying Minnesota for the 8th seed last year, to a playoff contender next.

Elton Brand? He is real good, but he couldnt help Chicago in a weak PF Eastern Conference.

Im not saying the Clippers dont improve, but they should be, and most likely will be struggling around the .500 mark next year. Perhaps they contend for the playoffs a year after that.

I'll give it a shot, as early as it may be-

    WESTERN CONFERENCE
    1. Lakers
    2. Kings (by record)
    3. Spurs (cant see them getting any better)
    4. Mavs
    5. Rockets
    6. Blazers
    7. JAzz
    8. Wolves

    EASTERN CONFERENCE
    1. Bucks
    2. Raptors
    3. Sixers
    4. Magic
    5. Knicks
    6. Hornets
    7. Heat
    8. Hawks

I realize I leave myself open to the same comments about the Hawks as I made above about the Clip joint, but its the East and they will essentailly be adding Theo Ratliff and Shareef Abdur Rahim, so I'll stick with it.
