There was a similar game kinda back in 2008 or so on the G1 phone but you would catch ghosts instead. Was kinda cool but i guess never caught on.
Wait,,,you can hide something for others to find within the Nintendo/Pokemon universe? That's what I interpret Geocaching to be, way back in 2000.
Your thinking about Ingress which is what Pokemon Go is made from. All the locations were imported from there aka Pokestops.
I think this is a fascinating use of geolocation. I'm probably going to d/l this app just to see what it does. Question: Once you get bored of finding things, what do the other levels and teams do for you to have fun? Fights? Battles? Capture the Flag? Does your character get stronger, or are you having Card Game battles with the Pokemon you captured. And what is that Red sphere in the bottom of everyone's screen.
Once your trainer gets to level 5, you get to go battle at gyms. If you're team captures a gym or claims an open gym, you leave a pokemon there to protect it. People will challenge it (I don't think you battle them live). The longer your gym is there, the more coins you get. Also saw its good to catch "multiples" of pokemon because you can trade them for "candy" which you can then use to level up the same pokem (IE, keep making your strongest one stronger). I think battling someone random may be introduced at some point, as well as trading.
thx, rep. What is a "Battle at gyms"? Is that your 'trainer" against someone else? Or are your deck of captured pokems having a TCG battle with someone else.
Don't think they were expecting/ready for the amount of people. Nintendo has to step in and fix the servers.
Another thing to consider that is astonishing is this app is probably sucking more cellular data than all other game apps, since it's MO is to get you away from WiFi and out wandering the world. I know my use of Google Maps for real geolocation reasons eats up a lot of cellular data. I could see cellphone providers offering deals for new customers featuring free Pokemon Data plans.

Servers down now. When they come back up bring all of your iPads and phones for future trading potential
