https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/272134/Pistons-Planning-Aggressive-Pursuit-Of-Cam-Johnson Looks like the Rockets have some serious competition if they plan on signing Cam Johnson this off-season. I don't know how much he really moves the needle for the Rockets but if Detroit gets him with the Monty connection we'll at least know the Nets are worse off and the pick is potentially moving higher in the draft.
This is good for the Rockets in either outcomes. Pistons and Nets goes into a bidding war. If Pistons wins Cam, but at a high price, Nets lose a good player which could affect their W/L. Good for us, since we hold their picks/swaps. If Nets wins to keep Cam, and they overpay, their cap space remains inflexible, (... gets worse). Be hilarious if Brooklyn ends up in lux tax because of Cam Johnson. Tough to improve their squad in next few years, if all their money is tied up. They still have dead salary like Ben Simmons. All this indirectly also affect their W/L. Since Pistons submits the offer, (instead of us), bonus is we're still free for those few days to sign other free agents and not be frozen. As far as news/rumor, Pistons being serious appears to be legit. Just as recent reporting that Cam was leaning to stay with the Nets, and Nets was going back to a high number. Even if Rockets don't get Cam Johnson, it's a win-win for us by proxy. P.s. we're still logged jam at the wings spot.
Yea, as much as we need shooting, I think it would be even better if the Pistons (or someone other than the Nets) got Cam Johnson. That way we can pony up the money required to pull Brook Lopez and a PG away from their teams. Whatever is left over can be used on a specialist perimeter defender. If we get Cam Johnson then we probably don't get a rim protector and a good PG.
I would bet that Nets are willing to match anything Cam gets. So I'm ok with Pistons pursuing him rather than us.
I think it'll be tough to push the Nets over the 2nd apron, no matter the offer. What we want is someone else to offer Cam way too much. He is a nice player, but not worth 25M+ They do have Royce O'Neal and Summer with partial and no guarantees on their deals, then a Cam Johnson deal would need to be $23M just to put them into tax land. Credit to the Nets, they have done the best possible job of rebuilding after 3 mega stars ditched them. From 2025-2030 they have 11 first round picks and 9 seconds. Hopefully all of their legs fall off permanently and they have the worst record in the league the next 4 years....
I have heard that the Nets are open to trading Royce O'Neal and Dorian Finney-Smith. I wouldn't hate acquiring one of those guys.
Nets should be trying to trade Bridges to us to get some of their picks back and a couple of young prospects.
I hear about "dual overhead cams" when people are trying to brag about their car engines, so I think we need a second one if we really want to make the lineup pop.
Us taking Patty mills off their cap and rerouting him is bizarre if true… because we’re helping them in spite of us #RuhFelldownonthejob
Hector is gonna be running three Honda Civics with Spoon engines. On top of that, he just came into Harry's and ordered three T66 turbos with NOS and a Motec system exhaust.
