Dotel is too much of a one trick Pony. I think the Astros are grooming Lidge to be their closer.

Glad it's over man! Way to go Stros!

Clemens is amazing. He has a 10 game winning streak, and is 6-0 this season for us! WE RULE!!! :D

Man I just love to fantasize how mad the NYY fans must be. :D

They're were a lot of iffy non-calls, especially on the outside corner. I actually think it might have benefited the team though, if not Roger, because Wells seemed to handle it much more poorly.

Roger was annoyed, but got over it and pitched a good game. Wells looked nice early, but walked a few batters on pitches he thought should have been strikes... and I think lost it a bit.

hasn't dotel been one of the absolute best relief pitchers in baseball for like 3 years now? when wagner was here it was all about dotel, now he has the job and you want to give it to lidge? wagner was a one-trick pony who ended up being the best closer in this franchise's history.

I have to agree. I dont think the astros are grooming lidge to be the closer at all. They just gave that to Dotel, why would they give it away so soon? I like Lidge and he is pitching well but Dotel is the man. He is pitching pretty damn well and he is notorious for getting off to a slow start.

Grooming Lidge may give the 'stros some leverage come contract negotiation time with Dotel.

But, at this point, Dotel is clearly the better pitcher. He always starts a little slow...but when he gets going he's as good as any reliever in the game.

I don't know about literally grooming Lidge to be the closer. I think they may just think of him as the backup plan were Dotel to have outrageous contract demands when that time comes. And personally, I disagree that Lidge has better stuff. When Dotel is on, his fastball is around 96 mph, and is moving all over the place. His slider is almost as good as Lidge's.

Lidge is as much a one trick pony as Dotel. The only real majoy league pitches he has are the slider and fastball. He has pretty good placement on his fastball, but not a lot of movement. At least, not like Ducky's. And he never really throws his slider for strikes, so if his cheese placement isn't working for him, he walks a lot of batters. But they certainly both have closer stuff.

That's what Jimmy said in the Chronicle. (he was quoted). he said back when we had Wagner we used Dotel as the closer when Wagner had the night off. They will do the same thing this season with Lidge and Dotel.

How awesome is it seeing Ensberg heat up?

Now Wade's got a nice little cushion to work with...

Ensberg's poor fielding is hurting us again. That so should have been an out. Now bases loaded.
