Astros @ Reds Sorry, been at coaching school in San Antonio. I must have been staying at the only hotel on Earth without Internet connectivity. All game talk goes in here. Please do not give play by play. If you need play by play go to CBS, ESPN, or Yahoo. Pitching Proabables: 7-26 Jon Lieber (9-9, 4.88) vs. Roy Oswalt (13-8, 2.41) 7:05 on KNWS 7-27 Vicente Padilla (5-8, 5.52) vs. Roger Clemens (8-4, 1.40) 7:05 on FSSW
ESPN sucks Philadelphia (52-47) at Houston (51-47), 8:05 pm EDT HOUSTON (Ticker) -- Andy Pettitte is showing why the Houston Astros lavished him with a three-year contract worth more than $30 million after the 2003 season. The veteran lefthander takes the mound Monday night when the Astros host the Philadelphia Phillies in the opener of a three-game series. The Astros have won seven of their last eight games, including Sunday's 4-1 victory in 14 innings at Washington on a three-run homer by Jason Bruntlett. Pettitte (7-7, 2.82 ERA) is 3-0 with a 1.08 ERA in four July starts. Last Wednesday, he tossed seven scoreless innings in a win at Pittsburgh. Pettitte is 0-2 with a 6.32 ERA in three career starts vs. the Phillies, but has not faced them since July 15, 2001. Philadelphia hands the ball to Cory Lidle (8-8, 4.45), who left the team for personal reasons after being hammered in his last two starts. The veteran righthander was reached for 14 runs and 19 hits in 7 1/3 innings of consecutive losses to Florida and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Lidle is 5-3 with a 2.75 ERA in 10 road starts this season as opposed to a 3-5 home record with an ERA more than double his road mark. Philadelphia has won nine of its last 12 contests, including a three-game sweep of San Diego this past weekend. On Sunday, the Phillies posted a 5-1 triumph behind six solid innings by Brett Myers, who won his third straight decision. JASON BRUNTLETT!?? care to do some research, espn?
man ..that was a BLAST by Berkman no HR has ever been hit to dead center in MMP right? that one was pretty damn close
I'm pissed because I'm not getting this game. Whatevahhhhhh! It's a stupid baseball game, man. Just show em the f*ck all.
I believe Matt Stairs had one back in 2003 that hit the brick wall above CF... it was the longest one recorded at the park until Lance hit an upper deck shot to RF later that year. Berkman's HR (which is well out of the stadium in any other park... but barely over in MMP) helps legitimize Biggio's HR (which is an out in every park except MMP and Fenway... where its only a 2B). Good to see these guys start to play longball.
314' 1" for Biggio 440' 1" for Berkman Both = solo shots. God bless the Crawford boxes. That was a BLAST by Berkman
I love watching Pettite... even when he puts guys on base, he's great because you get to watch him pick guys off who are just clueless to his move (which I always thought was borderline illegal... ).
Most good pickoff moves are balks, that I've seen. Didn't Richie Sexson hit a screamer that dinged the flagpole? And I think Piazza's hit one out over dead center.
Yep... and the worst part is, since the pole is "in play", and he never ran, he was held to a single (I believe). The longest single in the history of baseball. EDIT: Actually, I was wrong... the worst part is, since the pole is "in play", he was held to a triple... and the Astros ended up winning by 1 in extra innings.
Key part of the game here... bases loaded after they should have gotten the easy 3rd out on the pitcher... and Bobby "Homerun Champ" Abreu is up.
Now, Biggio takes it upon himself to legitimize his 1st inning HR.... with a BLAST to left. 4-0, Good guys.
In the very next AB, no less. They went back to back, back to back times. That's hard to say, but I think its right.
