And the angel took the censer, and filled it with fire of the altar, and cast [it] into the earth: and there were voices, and thunderings, and lightnings, and an earthquake. Revelation 8:5
Former Texans D linemen - ND Kalu " When I was with the Redskins and In The Air Tonight started playing, We all got hyped" In pop culture: Eminem most referenced song. DMX used the beat for an underrated track "I can feel it." About God.
A lot of people really really like him. I remember maybe 5-10 years ago I with a large group of buddies packed into a rental cargo van to drive to Green Bay to see a Packers game and on the radio Phil Collins came on and one of my buddies made a joke about Collins sucking and he was overwhelmed with anger and shock from the rest of the passengers claiming Collins was "a bad man" and it turned into a multi hour discussion about how Collins was "it" and how his name would not be sullied by someone that listened to Dave Matthews.
in the air tonight has THE most famous drum fill in music history. phil collins also played congas on george harrisons first album when he was only 18 as well as a few brian eno albums plus he is an alamo history buff and is donating a bunch of artifacts to the alamo museum. i love this thread. just another day in paradise at clutchfans.
when i was in sunday school in the 80's they wheeled a tv in the classroom and played us the video to another day in paradise to teach us about the plight of the homeless...but all i really learned was that phil collins was a masterful writer of tender ballads.
Glad I got to see him twice on his last tour. The Brooklyn concert was the most I’ve seen a crowd collectively dance and jam out. Old people were definitely having sore knees the next day. I would have loved have seen him when he was still drumming.
for me its both. his stuff can be cheesy, but you cant deny the catchiness, the hooks and timeless songwriting. and just hearing his music invokes all kinds of heavy nostalgia for me. phil collins is the soundtrack to spending a day at astroworld in the 80's. jammin' out to sussudio and ridin' the gunslinger... or taking your chances on the XLR8 while 'take me home' blasts from the speakers below.
Phil Collins has to do this song from quarantine now and release it. He just has to. That's how this works.
Been pretty good at catching older musicians near or on their last tour. Couldn't believe I didn't hear of him coming to Houston until seeing people post pics on Facebook.
One of the few drummers in the world who's playing is instantly recognizable after only a few bars - even by non-drummers/musicians. Who else can you say that about? Bonham? Moon? Fast forward to 1:36 and tell me who's playing drums on this track. Very easy answer. Again, go to 2:24 and listen for the bell of the ride cymbal. This one's a little harder, but still pretty recognizable: Phil is The Man.
