I made this thread hoping in some miraculous way the coaching staff end up seeing this because with Josh on the floor our offense can be unguardable but the defense yesterday was unacceptable....When you are guarding the P&R just play percentages instead of trying for aggressive d...(KNOW YOUR MAN) 1. Dirk and Barea P&R Go UNDER the screen every time and force barea to make outside shots instead of just piercing our D every time..Josh smith try to disrupt barea while dirk is an arms length away while defense gets back, which mean NEVER commit trying to make a steal unless its in your hands , NEVER leave dirk open for the 3 (Dirk is priority) 2. Dirk and ellis P&R A) Always switch this P&R and just keep ellis in front of you let him shoot a jump shot that is the priority...layups will kill us, play it safe instead of aggressive B)If Dirk gets the ball force him to his left, and throw double teams when he's on the move, his cross court passes have been easily picked off, always leave the farthest two ppl from the ball open to force long passes our weak side defender can react to. C) Starting quarters they have also had set plays where ellis dishes to chandler knowing dwight is gonna contest, Harden has to leave Aminu to help cover for dwight .. The Awarness has to be on point from all 5 guys , when ellis drives you already know dwight will try to alter his shot, you have to be there a step earlier , giving up an Aminu 3 with a closeout is much more preferable shot than a chandler dunk!! Always play the percentages and steals and mistakes will come by itself because the opposition will be to frustrated and will start forcing things. If we can't defend the Dallas P&R with barea running the show, what in the world is gonna happen with CP3 Curry or Parker...... The P&R defense is about Smarts and communication , just effort won't cut it....FIX THE P&R DEFENSE NOW!!!
Pretty much what led to the lead dwindling and the Mavs going up. There is a play where Smith literally hops and dances around after a missed shot instead of getting back on defense.
Why didnt anyone show this thread to Smith...are we even coaching him up on P&R defense? Atrocious again so far tonight...come on man
