More or less. I don't care, and I have no trouble admitting it. If you want to pretend that an American life means as much to you as some Afghani, by all means keep moralizing.

I believe that only one or two were killed accidentally. Still horrible that none of the four had due process

Of course Bush "accidentally" killed 5000 Americans and a hundred times that number of Iraqis.

Obama is always saying "make me do it". I think this is a case of Obama in his speech being finally shamed by liberals into moving in the right direction with respect to random drones, Guantanamo and other issues in the endless corporate war on terror.

One difficult question in all of this is if we are to continue with a war on terror is there any better way than drone strikes to conduct it? Things like using special forces carries far more risk and potentially could kill more than using a drone. Consider that while the Bin Ladin raid went well looking at things like Desert 1 and Blackhawk down the risk is much higher, including to civilians, in those type missions. Consider if the Pakistanis had responded to the OBL raid while in progress a fire fight between US and Pakistani forces in Abbotabad could've killed hundreds or more Pakistanis.

Land drone cockroaches that explode once they identify their targets with face recognition software.

too bad there isn't a real sarcastic Jefferson because he may not be as ignorant as the one posting here.

What a dumb comparison. There are two comparisons that would be more fitting to the post ignorant sarcastic Jefferson made.

1 would be how many W waterboarded vs. how many Obama waterboarded. The next would be how many innocent people died because of Obama's drone strikes compared to how many innocent people died because of the way W conducted the war on terror.

Obama would come out with fewer in both cases.

Suspected US drone crashes in Somalia's Lower Shabelle

A suspected US drone has crashed the southern Lower Shabelle region of Somalia, according to reports.

The militant group al-Shabab said on Twitter that an American unmanned aircraft had come down near a town under its control.

A regional governor told Reuters that fighters had shot at the object.

The US uses drones in Somalia to support the Somali government and African Union (AU) forces as they battle the al-Qaeda-linked al-Shabab.

The US Africa Command has not confirmed the reports.

    'They hit it'
Residents in the town of Bulo Marer told the BBC they had seen the wreckage of a small plane but did not know whether it was a US drone.

Lower Shabelle region governor Abdikadir Mohamed Nur told Reuters news agency that Islamist militants had shot at the aircraft over the town for several hours before it came down.

"Finally they hit it and the drone crashed," he said.

Al-Shabab said in a Twitter post that photographs of the drone would be published in the coming hours.

A French soldier was among several people who died during a failed operation to free a hostage in the town of Bulo Marer in January.

The hostage, Denis Allex, kidnapped in Somalia in July 2009, was also believed to have been killed by captors during the operation.

Al-Shabab emerged as the radical youth wing of Somalia's now-defunct Union of Islamic Courts in 2006.

It is fighting to create an Islamic state in Somalia.

The AU has about 18,000 troops in the country to help the government battle the insurgents.

Al-Shabab was forced out of Mogadishu in August 2011 following an offensive by AU and government troops.

But it still controls most villages and rural areas of southern and central Somalia.

STARTLING: What a Drone Can See From 17,000 Feet

Well, this is simultaneously fascinating and terrifying.

Rumors of an experimental 1.8-gigapixel surveillance video camera in development at DARPA -the ARGUS-IS- first surfaced in 2009.

But PBS this year got hold of some actual video feeds- and they are indeed chilling...

All it takes is one lone unit circling an area half the size of Manhattan (at cca 15-20,000 ft.) to provide comprehensive video surveillance of every single inch...

...They are running a program on the moving objects, meaning generating structured data out of the video, not merely displaying images. Just imagine drone-loving Dear Leader with a few hundred of these at his disposal...

And it doesn't even take the utmost tech to get this kind of resolution- this is what a drone equipped with this camera can image, record, and analyze at 17,000 ft...

That puts the prediction of 30,000 drones flying over American soil within the next seven years in perspective.

    What could possibly go wrong?
