McHugh's best season in Houston he had a 14.29 ERA in the spring. I won't say I don't care, but I trust a lot more in the numbers he has put up over his career here.
Altuve is coming off surgery. Bregman is coming off surgery. Correa is coming off the back injury. Brantley has health concerns. I expect Hinch to give those guys more DH days so they aren't in the field as much. Kemp and Diaz will get time in the lineup when those other guys are resting or DHing. White will probably get most of the DH ABs when all the regulars will be in the lineup. Plenty of at bats to go around. Astros are even trying Reddick at 1B. Hinch wants maximum flexibility.
I am fairly concerned about our rotation. Top two are fine. But last year Keuchal, Morton and LMJ compared to the mediocre committee we have this year? It is an odd numbered year. Doesn't DK usually do good in odd numbered years? McHugh, Miley and Behind door number 2 means challenging games in which our offense will have to be cranking runs out.
McHugh's career spring ERA is over 7. Hinch has said that Reddick at 1B is strictly for emergency purposes at this point. I would think, and nobody has told me I'm wrong, that Brantley will spend a good bit of time at DH (just to keep him healthy if nothing else). That opens up some starts for Kemp in LF (Hinch has mentioned him getting more work in CF and less at 2B just to make him more usable) and Jake wherever.
Scott Foster, Joe West, Joe Mauer, Tony Brothers, Angel Hernandez... someone create a poll on who's the worst...
It is Hernandez. First pitch to Springer was horribly called a strike. Hinch was tossed extremely quick and then eventually went ballistic.
I know you are old and dignified....but if you are not heckling the living hell out of him I will be totally disappointed
I gave him a bit when it happened, but I've been coughing for a week now so I am frailer than usual. don't think I've ever been referred to as dignified.
Hinch said Angel Hernandez once admitted to him he makes “four bad calls a game.” Hinch took issue with the calls in the first inning and from the dugout shouted, “You’ve used all four.” Hernandez tossed him immediately. Harden needs to be more snarky with Scott Foster
Not denying that...that being said, we sat with a couple of my old high school teachers... Although now that we live in Florida...I'm younger than most people
Any chance Nick Tanielu makes the team or any chance he would get called up at some point of the season? His offensive numbers looks solid. Not sure how's he doing on defense though. And yes it's only spring training but still impressive. Where did he come from? I don't recall seeing his name regarding top prospects for the team (he's 26. Is that too old to be in a prospect ranking?).
