In order to be the GOP nominee you have to be able to win over Trump's base.

Pence is the least equipped to do that of all.

    Dead on arrival.

'He kept silent all the way till the end.'

I guess that's consistent even if some fine folks from one side want him hung.

Christie who has maybe less of a shot is just being the egotistical Christie wasting time with his Trump hurt my feelings so I'm gonna run to take Trump down campaign. We at least understand his motivation. I guess Pence may have some similar motive.

If you want to be the King, you have to beat the King.

You can't ignore Trump and win. You have to beat him at his own game and conquer his constituency.

Nobody else seems willing (or able) to do that other than Christie.

I don't think he will win, but IMO he should be the 2nd or 3rd best odds.

All of these "I'm a normal Republican" folks are just fooling themselves, and that probably includes Desantis.

Definitely but Christie isn't running to win, he is running to take down Trump because Trump embarrassed him and he has become known as a Republican who will attack Trump.

Pence and Christie have no shot but Christie isn't trying to win.

I don't believe anyone doesn't "run to win". There are folks who for sure doubt their own chances and realize that a winning Presidential bid can often take multiple cycles to put together, but I don't come anywhere close to buying the idea that Christie is running out of pure spite for Trump.

That being said, if Christie can kneecap Trump in 2024 and the eventual Republican nominee loses (provided it isn't him), he will have a fantastic lane set up for himself in 2028.

We're talking about a guy who shut down a vital bridge out of spite. Christie right now doesn't poll high enough, by not high enogh less than 1%, to qualify to make it to debates among other things

The man literally declared his candidacy yesterday. It will be 9 months at least before the first ballots are cast. Perhaps some patience is in order.

Even his sign is as milquetoast as he is.

Pence was always aiming for this spot during the circus act. Running now is on schedule for him.

He qualified extremely well as a palate cleanser. It's on him to convince his base that he's the main course.

...maybe he missed the whole "Hang Mike Pence" crowd.

Mother should let him out of the house more often.

There's more to the world than what you can see out of your bedroom window...:)

The only way I can see Pence getting the nomination is if something very unusual
Happens and the convention actually matter. I can see him as some sort of compromise nominee out of old school powerbrokers and Evangelicals.

    This sum it up well…

Romney had long been put off by Pence’s pious brand of Trump sycophancy. No one, he told me, has been “more loyal, more willing to smile when he saw absurdities, more willing to ascribe God’s will to things that were ungodly than Mike Pence.”

Is Pence going to endorse anyone else?
