Tony Kemp is a bit of a square peg for us right now. Everything about his offensive results scream legit to me. But he's a mediocre defensive outfielder, and he's playing a premium offensive position. If he was playing an average 2B, we could easily be talking about a 3/4 WAR player. We have to know his value isn't maximized on this team, and other teams at this point have to be realizing how valuable he could be for them. I love guys that get on base, and that OBP has to be in the lineup, but the logistics of his position on this team moving forward are tricky.
I see the Mariners are on another 30 game win streak or whatever it is... can the shitty Angels not win one game against this over-achieving loser franchise?
I've always thought the "premium offensive position" stuff was a little overrated. Just because many teams have a certain type of player at a certain position, doesn't mean to be successful you have to have that same type of player at that same position. If we want to attack things that way in the offseason while we are building a team, then that's fine But in early July, Kemp should be compared to our other options at the positions he plays. Right now, there is zero reason for him to not be in the lineup everyday. Regardless of his power for a corner outfield spot or whatever, he is the perfect 9 hole hitter for this lineup, and until he shows he doesn't deserve to be in there, he should be playing daily. Having said all of that, i'm sure we will get a good dose of Jake today while Tony watches from the bench
Coal Miner is an occupation. Cole Minor is a musician. Cole-Minor is the matchup. Minor has allowed a 5.74 ERA in 3 starts vs HOU this season, but is coming off a 2.08 June. I like how the Astros are giving McCullers and Morton extra rest between starts -- should bode well for their healthiest possible season.
God I groan every time I see Jake in the lineup. Has that super 2 nonsense not passed yet for tucker?
I think what he's saying is that Kemp has much more value as a 2B, and thus despite playing fine for us, it makes a lot more sense to trade him to someone who can extract that value. In theory, you should be able to trade him for a better offensive LFer without much trouble, assuming he's still competent at 2B.
Oddly, Marisnick was one of our better offensive players in June, with a 0.400 OBP and 0.950 OPS. We know he's not going to sustain it, but he was a plus-player both offensively and defensively for the team in June.
And yet they're going to have to settle for a one game playoff against Boston or NY... and that's only because there's a second wild card spot.
I think Kemp projects to be an above average second baseman who can hit lead off. Just not on this team. I think Kemp gets moved for value to the highest bidder this offseason.
Educated guess says Bregman has K'd on 3 pitches less than 5x this season. Where the f*** is Arlington anyway ?
