Makes Marisnick somewhat expendable, but Marisnick figures to be the 4th OF. Definitely gives you more flexibility for that 25th spot, and would be awesome to have a player like that for the postseason.
Right, defensive replacement OF who can steal bases and pitch against lefties? Can’t think of a better 25th player.
I wouldn't think so. He's never been able to consistently stick on a big league roster as an outfielder. Jake is definitely a much better outfielder. I would think Gose's main potential contribution (other than as a LH reliever, of course) would strictly be as a defensive replacement late in games or a pinch runner.
Just gonna leave this here. In no way should he be expected to be an Aroldis Chapman type of reliever but his throwing motion will definitely remind everyone of Chapman.
FWIW Gose has a higher career wRC+ than Marisnick. So if Gose did replace him the only downside is on defense. What if adding Gose means: Marisnick can be traded to a team that values him as an everyday CF, bringing back a good prospect or two Gose as the 25th player allows them to keep a 9th relief pitcher or 13th position player; Moran could be kept on the roster and they’d still have 8 relievers and 4 OF (not counting Moran, Marwin or Gattis) Interesting move that may be more impactful than we realize. But more likely their comments are legit, and they just view him as a lefty reliever with really high upside.
Yeah. He lost a chunk of last year due to injury, but he pitched very well as a 21 year old at Quad Cities. Doubtful we get him back... the Marlins are going to be so bad, they can afford to hide him in the pen.
I don’t think taking Gose in the Rule V rules out signing another LHRP They are simply bolstering competition for the situational lefty spots in the pen (Sipp, Guduan, Gose, etc). If he makes the team or is returned to the Rangers is TBD but this is worth the shot
Absolutely. At this point all he’s doing is occupying a 40 man spot. If the season started today it probably just means James Hoyt gets optioned. No reason at all this should prevent further upgrades.
I remember getting hyped for Gose for a few seconds first. And everybody hoping he was in the deal. This is a pretty damn cool pickup.
I like it. Lefty power arm (99 mph) out of the bullpen who can also pinch run, hit, or play the outfield. Who else brings you that? Admittedly he's a long shot, but with that kind of upside and our need for left handed relief help, why not?
