    Paxton to Yankees.

Going to make next season interesting for the Astros if Yankees get even better.

What this does is give us an idea of the quality of catcher the Astros believe they will get. The Astros could have easily beat that offer and choose not to.

I know Suzuki isn't the best with the glove but he is adequate with an above average bat and a really good feel for calling pitches.

I am sure Sheffield and others are included.

Paxton has the ability to shut down the Astros line up. He is a very good get for the Yankees but an injury risk.

Astros rumors: Team makes offer to keep starting pitcher Charlie Morton

    https://climbingtalshill.com/2018/11/19/astros-make-offer-charlie-morton/

The amount of the contract has not yet been disclosed. Morton was not granted a qualifying offer by the Astros, so it is safe to assume the overture would be less than the $17.9 million that would have been extended by Houston.

Pretty solid deal for the Yankees. I am not a huge Sheffield fan. They still have the young players to add two more very good starters if they choose to do so.

Well at least it makes the division less rough if the Mariners are going into rebuild mode.

Good point. Makes the Yanks more dangerous but the division is very much weaker with the Mariners going through a full-blown sell-off. There’s a real chance that the A’s might be the only team (other than the Astros) in the division to approach 90+ wins. LAA, Seattle and Texas (SEA and TEX for sure) will struggle to finish .500. And Oakland will very likely experience some sort of regression from their pitching staff so they might be weaker as well.

Pfft. Whitley is on a completely different level than Sheffield. Glad Luhnow passed. Sheffield is more akin to Alvarez in value. I feel like the package Ny gave up is like Alvarez, Dawson, and Armenteros.

Astros trade for Odor rejected by Rangers for not including Whitley and Tucker.

So was Sheffield their best prospect or did the Yankees get away with the Ms really overvaluing him?

Yes, he was NY’s #1 prospect, ranked #31 overall by mlb.com.

Sucks that Houston didn’t get him, sucks that he landed in the AL. Sucks that the team that got him didn’t have to overpay. But it does pretty much take NY out of the trade market for star players. Will be interesting to see which other players get moved; the Indians, Mets, and DBacks will determine the ToR SP market now.

I do wonder if the rumored offer to Morton is related at all to Houston missing out on Paxton.

I'm guessing I feel about this trade the way Yankee fans felt about the Cole trade last season.

So the Yankees might be out of the trade market, but they still sign both Corbin and Machado. This blows. Paxton only stays healthy for about 4 months out of the year so there's that I guess.

Never like to see NYY or BRS get better.

As for Morton. We got holes to fill. We need to get on it.

When I ask, I keep being told to keep an eye on Greinke.

The Yankees were adding two aces no matter what... at least with Paxton there are healthy questions and issues over whether he can handle NY.
