It hasn’t happened. Luhnow addressed it, said Correa called him from his honeymoon, he told Correa to chill. Luhnow said he would be surprised if he traded any core players. However, the dog stood by his sources and said he still expected the trade to happen. My guess is that Luhnow spent a large % of the winter meetings gauging Correa’s value. He may have taken discussions to the next level with the Reds and Mets, but in the end couldn’t get a deal done. My prediction is that Luhnow shifts focus to acquiring a catcher, and that Houston will have acquired a catcher by 1/10/20. Once that is done he will likely re-assess the starting pitching market, and possibly circle back to the idea of trading Correa for pitching. I do not expect Correa to be traded, although no one should be shocked if he is. I also predict once Luhnow finishes addressing the pitching situation in Jan/Feb, he will focus the rest of the offseason on trying to extend Springer (and possibly McCullers, Whitley, and Osuna).
Leveraging a callup to get WHitley to sell his arb and first couple of FA years a below market is a good outcome for Houston.
Wonder if Edwin Diaz could be had for a reasonable price. Agree with Snake that bullpen looks set, but Diaz could be a gamble worth taking.
Listened to Granato on the way in and he suggested that given what he knows, Luhnow might want to try and execute his offseason plan prior to the turn of the year. Luhnow likes to play the patient game. Wonder if he will expedite his moves for fear of suspension.
I followed your advice and yeah I already scanned through all of that...just surprised there wasn't more talk given that price. The Rangers have a potentially good starting rotation IMO and it's kind of impressive how they put it all together with a low budget.
Just curious, what might an Austin Barnes deal look like? As in, what would LAD need/look for in return? Likely nothing too big, though he has control his bat isn't that hot and they have some good youngsters ready. Maybe some AAAA guys/12-20 range prospects? If we get him, I'd like to get Alex Wood (former batterymate) in FA if he comes cheap. Put performance-based incentives on the deal, use him as a lefty starter. Hopefully he can stay healthy and Strom can work his magic, high upside, great when healthy.
LOL. On a serious note, is one/two of, say, Framber/Armenteros/Sneed enough to seal the deal? I feel like it should but I get the feeling they'll want more considering the Alvarez deal.
I think 2 good pitching prospects would be fair: 1 MLB ready arm from this group: Valdez, Armenteros, Deetz, or C Perez 1 upside arm from this group: Solis, Torres, Garcia, Dubin, Rivera, N Rodriguez, Paredes
