A part of the best free agent SS class of all time This years 60 game season won’t help either cause he doesn’t have to show he can play, everyone knows he is a stud. Showing he could play a full 162 season without missing large chunks would help him tremendously, and that can only happen in 21 now, and even then only if we get in a full 21 season without a strike

If his agent has assessed that there won't be much of a market after 2021, they sign an extension now. While owners can collude and try and claim they're not going to pay big money... there will always be big money available for the mega-stars that add wins and/or are marketable. Correa's biggest question will always be health, but he does have youth and the fluke-ish injury issues on his side. At least he's no longer the most hated Astro around here...
That’s also a very payroll friendly group of contracts. Astros could easily land a star or two with that budget.
He has a bad back that has been an issue the last 2 seasons. I do not consider that fluke-ish. He's a 6 foot 4 inch SS that dives all over the field and has a high torque swing. That's not a good combination with a back injury. The reason I believe it is possible he stays in Houston is unless the other guys sign deals before free agency, Carlos has to compete against Baez, Story, and Lindor for a contract. All of those guys have played 140 plus games a year the last 3-4 years while putting up big numbers. Carlos only played more than 140 games one time. Carlos has a lot of catching up if he wants the biggest contract of those guys. Also, Boston has their SS in Bogaerts and hopefully the Yankees are happy with Torres. Semien is a free agent after this year so that could fill another big money spot at SS.
And the fractured thumb and rib injuries were flukeish. The back is concerning... but barring further information, apparently there is nothing structurally wrong with it that it was for the most part healed with an off-season of rest after 2018. Not sure what he did after the rib fracture, but something obviously exacerbated it late in the season... and it wasn’t from “overuse”. Many claimed in 2018 he would never get back to playing at a high level, and that was simply not true. IOW, without a structural defect, he’s still young enough to overcome whatever the issue is with better training/PT.. and it has yet to impact his defense on the field.
Anyone that does in depth research comes out with the same conclusion. So for Yankees fans that say what the Astros did was worse than steroids...no, steroids gave players a measurable improvement. The Astros sign stealing did not...
You wouldn't even need a study... if they did nothing in 2019, and won 107 games... or if they didn't have a 'system' on the road, where they hit better on the road in 2017... its clear that there is some sound data that having some inkling of what pitch is coming doesn't necessarily translate to runs. But people aren't really going to accept that... until it comes out that their teams did different versions of the same thing, and it really didn't help anybody gain any sort of real competitive edge. Lastly, Yankees fans can cry non-stop... but the fact remains that they "knew" what teams were doing, and what they were doing, and teams still competed despite this knowledge. Aaron Judge coming out with fake sanctimony after he had just spent an entire year with Beltran in the front office was really rich.

With all that has gone on, I doubt he gets close to that because of the years. That said, all the reasons that you keep listing makes it more likely he'll be a very well-paid Astro for a long time.
There’s a lot of contract options in between 6/40 and 10/400. Correa still has the best tools of all of these guys... and his post-season experience/success would play a factor as well (if I was his agent). Again, plenty of people didn’t think he could get close to the pre-rib 2019 numbers after the relative disaster that was 2018. There’s a ton of time left in his career.

Agree, I think there is a chance we could even keep Springer on a short deal also, with him hoping to be young enough to strike in a year or two if economics of the game recover Obviously unprecedented times
Correa could very very easily turn out like Troy Tulowitzki, who could never be counted on after his age 27 season.
So could Bregman, or Altuve, or Springer... or any player that starts having the random seemingly unrelated injuries that Tulowitzki started having. Actually, given their random injury history, Springer is closer to Tulowitzki than any other Astro... and is older.
