There's a silver lining here...after the Astros miss the playoffs, and they will miss the playoffs, the front office will address the weakness on this team and hopefully get a big stick in the off season. Astros 2019!!!!
And it may be less costly to resign our core players. They have all underperformed compared to last year except for Bregman. I hope we can keep him whenever his contract comes up. And Altuve has been hurt but his power numbers have regressed a bit.
Oakland is playing really, really well. Our team hasn't been fully intact for about 2 months. The fact that we're still in first is actually amazing considering the tear OAK is on. Our horses are coming back and we still have 6 weeks left to get it together. Sure it'll be a dogfight, but to matter-of-factly state "we'll miss the playoffs" is just a lazy take. Having to fight to win your spot in the playoffs is actually a good thing, folks.
If either Springer or Correa gets a hit tonight I will consider the game a success regardless of the final score.
Guessing that Perez isn't stretched out to go multiple innings but Valdez is. While Perez was a starter in the minors, he hasn't had to go multiple innings recently at all. Valdez just went 5+ in his last start a week ago.
There is zero chance we miss the playoffs. There’s a less than 1% chance we don’t win the division. This team is a couple weeks removed from being on the best regular season pace in franchise history. They’ll get it together.
Our team needs to right the ship in time. I am worried. I can't help but be 100% sure the problem is that Verlander knocked up Kate, and we are cursed for getting the woman beater on the team.
I am hoping and wondering if this works in our favor. Mariners have a beat on our core starting five. They’ve studied them very well and it shows in their at bats. Not chasing much and working counts. They haven’t faced peacock much. Could take them some time to adjust. It’s not like Seattle is Boston offensively. Correa has cost himself tens of millions of dollars this year by stinking up the field. He has time to recover of course, but if he was a stock he’d have lost a good chunk of value this year. Incredibly, Correas numbers as a rookie are better than his 2018 campaign. He’s by far the most disappointing Astro this season.
We have to beat Seattle at some point if we want to make the playoffs period. And we’ve failed at that our last five times in a row... We have enough games left with Seattle that the playoffs aren’t a lock just yet. They are just 3.5 games back.
