I thought Devo actually looked pretty good that inning. You just have no idea what version you'll get.
I'm not sure what "MVP" means in MLB. In the NBA, we know it means absolutely nothing, and in the NFL, it means "Best QB." Considering how many injuries this team has sustained, and Bregman has NOT been one of them and has been producing the whole time, I'd say he's been extremely valuable. He's also handled a lot of 3B and SS this year. And now he's getting his swing together and starting to hit for average in addition to OPS. I mean, the Astros without Bregs aren't where they are this year right now.
I assumed with the Greinke deal, Cole was 100% gone... I agree with your view re: Toro and Bregs (based on all of a 1 week sample of Toro). Some guys seem to have it. They can also always teach Yordan to throw left handed and play 3rd.
But he was throwing 90 MPH and I just read where you can't be successful these days throwing 90. How could be have been successful?
Depends on the voter, the BBWAA is a weird bunch. Some use the actual definition of "valuable", some just consider it to mean "best" If Bregman has a great September he should be right there with anybody.
He had 4 in a row to start (the first due the the scoring change which correctly took away a couple of ERs), then his last one and tonight were bad.
Run support certainly helps. In all the wins he's notched this year, his team has scored at least 3 runs. And in only three of those games was the run total 3 or 4; most were much higher. A guy that pitches to contact needs more than 2 runs, bats.
Cole is gone. The money isn’t there. However the Astros have had a long term deal on the table for Correa for awhile. Hypothetically the Astros could take that money and the money they would be comfortable offering Cole and likely be able to keep Cole (but ultimately lose Correa). I just think Cole is far more valuable than Correa, especially for the Astros. I have confidence Toro will be a good player. We also have some other middle infielders in the system and Diaz as well.
He had exceptional control and command in Arizona. I am a huge Greinke fan and he just doesn’t look comfortable with the Astros yet. He has had communication issues with his catchers. He has different people coming up with game plans. Couple that with his anxiety and being on the spectrum and you have a guy that may just need some time.
Just read his hammy gave out and hinch said he thinks it’s bad because George asked to come out and he never does that
