Thank you- it did go well. Insurance paid 19k, our portion was $148. We haven't seen the bill from the surgeon or the hospital for the surgery itself yet. This is a kid, though, that is un-insurable through the open market. His only chance to get insurance would be to work for a company who offered insurance, even if it wasn't what he wanted to do, or who he wanted to work for. Expanding insurance to include people with pre-existing conditions will allow him to not have to worry choosing a job based on insurance availability.
Another Status Report Tracking Enrollments for the Affordable Care Act Private QHPs: 3.03M Medicaid/CHIP: 7.44M Sub26ers: 3.10M Total as of Jan 21, 2014: 13.57 Million Enrollment Period Elapsed: 63.2% CBO Projection Attained: 42.9%
Just out of curiousity, how many of the above are verified enrollment (as in paid premium enrollment)?
Congratulatiions! You are the only person with those verified numbers. For example: http://abcnews.go.com/blogs/politics/2013/12/new-obamacare-headache-is-your-enrollment-real/
Annnnd from today's NYT, a report of hospitals gaming the system to maximize bills. And we wonder why that poor poster's son gets charged tens of thousands of dollars (just the lodging fee) for barely a complete night on site. http://www.nytimes.com/2014/01/24/business/hospital-chain-said-to-scheme-to-inflate-bills.html?ref=business&_r=0 "This month, the Justice Department said it had joined eight separate whistle-blower lawsuits against H.M.A. in six states. The lawsuits describe a wide-ranging strategy that is said to have relied on a mix of sophisticated software systems, financial incentives and threats in an attempt to inflate the company’s payments from Medicare and Medicaid by admitting patients like an infant whose temperature was a normal 98.7 degrees for a “fever.” The accusations reach all the way to the former chief executive’s office, whom many of the whistle-blowers point to as driving the strategy. For H.M.A., the timing could not be worse. Shareholders recently approved the planned $7.6 billion acquisition of the company by Community Health Systems, which will create the nation’s second-largest for-profit hospital chain by revenue, with more than 200 facilities. The deal is expected to be completed by the end of the month. While the lawsuits against H.M.A. provide a stark look at the pressure being put on doctors and hospital executives to emphasize profits over their patients, similar accusations are being raised at other hospital and medical groups as health care in the United States undergoes sweeping changes."
At least you admit to what's being done. Wealth redistribution in exchange for votes. apparently you celebrate that
Obamacare must be working. What is up with all of the women hating the last few days from our republican brothers? Gohmert 'government 'lures' poor women into high life of single motherhood' Huckabee 'Women 'They Cannot Control Their Libido' Without The Government' Pearce ‘The Wife Is To Voluntarily Submit’ To Her Husband Probably because ACA is working so we got's to change the tune.
That isn't close to what he said. :roll eyes: Come on man, you're better than that. I for one want to know why democrats are waging a war on cancer patients. Cancer treatment should be covered at no cost! Why didn't the democrats make cancer treatment free under the ACA???? They want cancer patients to be subservient! They want us to go back to the 1900s!!!!!!
Actually, the ACA prevents people from being denied coverage for pre-existing conditions including cancer. Why do Republicans want to prevent people with cancer from getting life saving health insurance?
Actually I agree, except one is preventive and the other is treating symptoms and prolonging life. Completely different situations. texxx when politicians put laws in place that people agree with of course they will acknowledge that with their vote. Why would you think otherwise?
Is that the Republican plan that popped out of nowhere after 20 years all of a sudden once Obamacare came about? Oh, okay.
As a young person, why the hell should I buy into ObamaCare? I would rather take the "tax" (or "penalty," if you prefer). Convince me.
Let's say, on your way home tomorrow, you are in an accident and require a stay in the hospital and ongoing treatments. Health insurance will negotiate down the rates for those services and will pay for a good bit of it. Without it, you are stuck with the crazy rates charged to those with no insurance and you are responsible for all of it. You get a benefit from paying insurance premiums if you need a doctor. If you pay the tax, you get no benefit and have just tossed money down the drain.
