I'm not interested in watching superfreaks play a child's game, big business has ruined sports. I like certain players like David Carr but it ist hard to root for any athlete because of this. With performance enhancesrs it is a huge sham, I want purity.
I've always suspected Gonzo as a juicer too. Up untill the 1997 season the most HR's he ever hit in a season was 15. Then they go up when he gets to Arizona as follows... 1998 23 HR 1999 26 2000 31 2001 57 (WTF!!! We're talking about skinny ass gonzo right?) 2002 28 2003 26 2004 17
...and had triplets! It's hard to sleep with one newborn, I can't imagine how little sleep he got with three.
Has professional sports ever been pure? Heck I am not sure college sports has ever been pure. There are many "inpurities" that has defied sports from the begining because our human nature. We are just finding out more about them now.
PS. If all these accusations are false I hope Boone, Big Mac, et al sue him. If they do not sue him that what will that tell us? If they do not sue, I will lean towards Canseco even more.
to be fair, everyone went crazy in 2001. bonds hit 73, sosa hit something like 64, arod hit 57, gonzo hit 57. it seems like a million people hit 40. it was like the one year explosion of 1987. gonzo never seemed that big to me which made it all the more surprising he was hitting homers. the fact it was a one season thing makes it seem like he had a career year in the perfect year to have a career year. 31 and 28 don't seem that strange or out of line with a gradual increase in power with age and then a gradual fall off once he got older.
Isn't it ironic that on the movie "Liar, Liar" Jim Carrey's character screams out, "I'm Jose Canseco!" while he's being taken out of the court room for contempt?
If they do not sue, it tells us that they aren't interested in spending a ton of dough on a layer to bring a suit that will be very difficult to prove, given that all involved are public figures. That's why the tabloids do not get sued very often.
The damage potential for this accusation is very big. If there was ever a time to spend money on libelous suits and lawyers this is it. Especially when you know for sure that the numbers you put were legitimate to the core. I believe without hesitation that Mcgwire, Palmero, Tejada and co need to do whatever to clear their names if they are NOT guilty. But if they are guilty, they shouldn't bother.
