What triggered this was BoB couldn't find a competent lt during draft, free agency and training camp. He fudges up contract negotiation w clowney and then in a desperate attempt, tried to trade him for a LT. His plan got screwed by clowney and then he proceeds to get rid of clowney out of spite, willing to pay the other team money to accept the trade. Stop painting BoB as a genius when hes just a petty ass coach.

Their plan wasnt from the start to trade clowney for an lt, it was to find one in free agency, draft or training camp and probably just franchise clowney.

You think the Johnson trade is an indicator of desperation? That's your example of a second trade that supports this narrative?

No. I think trading 346 draft picks to get ta LT 8 days before your season opener because you've blown the past two offseasons is an indicator of desperation. I was merely pointing out that they *also* dealt a pick for Johnson. They've moved *a lot* of draft capital this month.

Is the narrative now that the Texans are trading a lot of picks or that the head coach is desperate? If it's picks, then yes the Johnson trade is evidence. If it's desperation, then are you or are you not claiming that the Johnson trade indicates desperation? The Miami trade seems like a clear overpay, what other evidence of desperation are you suggesting?

IMO what we're seeing is a HC who wants his personnel issues solved and now is empowered to make that happen. From the outside we really have no idea whether that represents job insecurity or not. If the season goes poorly and he's fired then we'll have our answer. Until then, please don't go full BTG!

Most coaches being in charge of personnel, whether in NFL or NBA, has been that they value the now over the future regardless of whether their job is secure or not. That's just their nature since they only look at the upcoming season. I don't think this is sign of desperation so much as BOB doesn't really give a damn about 2 years down the road simply because he doesn't see that far.

I think the only exception in regards to a coach that looks long term is Bellichek. Even Popovich is mostly a win-now guy despite having job security for as long as he wants to coach.
