A very, very strange move. Her mother's a former DNC committee member and on the County Board of commissioners, according to wiki. And her ex husband. a lawyer, was the former chairman for the Democratic Party in NC.

I'm guessing there's some dirty pool involved. Like perhaps her ex/kid's father boinked someone he shouldn't have, or she got into debt with the wrong people...

She has no future in Mecklenburg County politics, that's for ****ing sure.

From what little I’ve seen of this situation it sounds like it’s more of a situation of personal picque. She is a pro gun rights Democrat and felt that becaue if that position she was being heavily criticized in the Democratic caucus including being called “Ammosexual”. She also felt she was being shut out of things like caucus meetings.

 

It’s also situations like this why Schumer and Biden maintained good relations with Manchin and Sinema. For how frustrating those too might’ve been to other Democrats Biden and Schumer understood that every Senate vote mattered if they wanted to keep their majority. Likely if they treated those two senators as many Democrats wanted them too, make them
Pariahs, they don’t get as much legislation passed.

 

I have no issue with someone switching parties, but to do it just after being elected seems like "bait and switch", she was elected as a Democrat by her constituents, and they have basically been duped.

 

Well if you are willing to switch your positions on issues and sell out millions of people going against your ideals because someone called you a name, says a lot about your convictions and character.

They're going to redraw the assembly lines to re-gerrymander them (even though they already have 60% of the seats). They want to solidfy their veto proof majority in the House.

With that said, I actually think she has a good chance to lose any re-election. She represents the Charlotte metro and at best they can draw an even district and you can guarantee that every Democrat will turn out to vote against her.

Clearly we're missing something as to why she would do this. I don't know if its money or something else but there has to be some seriously dark incentive to do something like this. She's actually from a political family that has been aligned with the Democrats for generations and she represents a Biden +20 district. This one is so bizarre that you can't explain it. Now her family has been on the conservative side of the Democratic Party but there's never been any ties to Republicans. There's something sinister that we'll hopefully discover down the road. But yeah, truly a dark time for North Carolina.

Trump won North Carolina by less than 3 points but somehow the Republicans have a filibuster proof majority to pass unpopular laws that poll less than 20%. This is the modern day republican party.
