The only "concept" I saw there while I was dumb enough to check it out amounted to endless praise of Jeremy, a couple even saying that he would be the greatest point guard there since Magic, if you can believe that, and an almost equal amount of vitriol aimed at ClutchFans, and Clutch himself. Incredible! Pretty much tied with a verbal assault on ClutchFans and Clutch, more or less, was vilifying both McHale and Harden, blamed for Lin not being a "top 5 point guard!" I got the impression that the veteran people at the site were astonished at what they were reading. Many were eager to slam the Rockets, of course, but the absurd, over the top praise of Jeremy Lin was definitely blowing a hell of a lot of minds there, with several already saying things like, "With luck, we'll only have to put up with this for a year" and "God help us!" While it was amusing, to a degree, I had to quit reading the catastrophe. The last thing I wanted to feel was sympathy for Laker fans. Let them stew in the juices of Lin's followers. If I felt like having sympathy for anything or anyone connected to what's happening in LA now, and I have no desire for that, it would be feeling sorry for Jeremy. If he's smart, he isn't reading that crap. If he is, he has to be disgusted, ashamed, and feeling more than a little ludicrous that he's the cause of it all. And now? It's all left us, the whole Circus from Hell. What a ****ing relief.
That's actually not so crazy, not that I believe it. That's really only Nick Van Exel and Fisher to compare to. There really aren't many great PGs. Hell, a lot of people would say Jerry West was a SG, so even prior to Magic you only add Gail Goodrich and Nixon. Obviously, Lin will not overtake Goodrich, if we count him as PG. Just pointing out how few PGs there are in Lakers' history.
Haha, yeah, "since Magic" sounds ludicrous because Magic is one of the all time greats. But Lin only needs to be better than Van Exel and Fisher to make that claim true. That's not as far-fetched as it sounds. That said, Van Exel has been quite good for a while. Lin fans should be ecstatic if Lin ever achieves Van Exel's level.
I know we Rockets fans hate Fisher but he's hit lots of big shots in the playoffs. Lin has had bruised chests and memorable turnovers. It's about being dependable and clutch. For the Rockets PG history, he can't even touch Kenny Smith. Hell, he wasn't even close to Sleepy Floyd.
From the end of Magic's career to present...here's the Rockets PGs Kenny Cassell Francis Sura Brooks Lowry Dragic Beverley and many of us would take Alston over Lin, too Of course, few of those players stayed with the Rockets very long.
The concept is similar to the Autobots the NWO from WCW Wu Tang Clan Tribe Called Quest NWA Justice League the Avengers New Edition Motley Crue Dream Team I The Expendables Genesis Rock N Roll Express the movie Juice
You're forgetting about Smush Parker. Not sure that Lin will eclipse him in the all time rankings of Laker PG's.
I know you guys are trying to diss Lin. This is not the purpose of the comments made by Deckard, heypartner, and myself. The claim by certain Lin fans in Lakers Ground was that Lin could be the best PG since Magic Johnson. heypartner pointed out that the best Lakers PGs since Magic were Van Exel and Fisher. So if Lin could be better than them, that seemingly ludicrous claim would be true (which would not be that big a deal given the dismal PG quality the Lakers have had since the Magic era). Who cares about Smush and Sessions? They aren't better than Van Exel. Let me give you an analogous claim: Indiana has been the best Eastern team beside the champion Miami team. We all know that it doesn't say much about Indiana given the suckiness of the East.
Rather amazing when you think about the Lakers' record over the years. You're right, of course. Jeremy has a rather low bar to hop across. All the endless array of talent that franchise has had, yet little in the "modern era" (whenever that's considered to have started, naturally) in the way of point guards, aside from arguably the best ever. Crazy! When I heard about the trade, my first thought, and I posted it somewhere, was that Lin had landed at a near perfect spot to shine. Now all he has to do is produce..
99er , Don't forget the 1999 playoffs . Remember Scottie Pippen? http://www.basketball-reference.com/boxscores/199905110LAL.html
Truth comes out. Tinman is a Jeremy Lin Only Fan and now that he is with the Lakers, Tinman is dumping CF. Knew it. Go to the Lakers forum where you belong Tinman. Worship your Jeremy Lin. We will stick with our Rockets. What a traitor.
