The last 2 days the following message has been popping up whenever I get on the net. Can anyone explain what it means? I don't seem to have any problems surfing until I try to get into one of the Clutch BBS forum messages and then my computer freaks out from then on. Anyway, here is the message I get. Thanks for the help. IEXPLORE caused a stack fault in module WSOCK32.DLL at 0167:78819c2f. oh my god! get out of your house right now! IT'S GONNA BLOWWWWWWWWWW! ..... j/k I would guess you have a corrupt IE file. Insert your IE disk and go to Fix/Repair Problems and follow the prompts... that's what I would do.. if that doesn't fix it, then run... no... just check back, someone more savvy than me will be answering soon. rH ------------------ visit: groovehouse.org
Brad, I get that occasionally when I visit certain pages or bulletin boards. I've been told to clear the internet cache out, of which I do. Strange but it doesn;t always do this. Sometimes it opens the page just fine...oh well. Good luck with that Stack dump at the bottom of your message! ------------------ "Beware the lollipop of mediocrity. Lick once and you suck forever."
Yo rH, Looks like we work for the same company, different locations...although doing the same thing at "work"! AMAZING! ------------------ "Beware the lollipop of mediocrity. Lick once and you suck forever."

What OS are you using? ------------------ "I had mine chewed off by a boss one time." -- Behad leaves us wondering if he gets hazard pay...
If you're using Windows 95 there were a number of Winsock related upgrade incompatabilities that caused issues like this. With Windows 98 or ME, this type of error message is most likely a virus or a corrupt or changed file. Specificaly there is one that has a spinning swirrly thing that attaches to your wsock32.dll (Win95.MTX) and another called 'bymer.scanner' that clogs everything up causing this fault. 1st download the very good very free virus scanner "Inoculate-It" and run autoupdate, then scan your entire drive. Even if you already have a scanner, most people's virus updates have run out, and they have old definitions. This makes your antivirus program useless. If you do that and it doesn't fix it find the wsock32.dll file and make a backup. Then type Start->Run in the white space type 'sfc'. Click on the 'extract one file from installation disk' radio button and type 'wsock32.dll' in the space. It may ask for your windows disk. If that doesn't work, I can give you some more suggestions based on your results. [This message has been edited by Ottomaton (edited June 20, 2001).]
Also, are you behind any type of firewall/proxy, or are you, or have you ever run any type of personal firewall software? ------------------
I've got a computer question. How do you set your default browser? I've been using the latest netscape version and everytime I try checking my mail with msn I keep getting a message saying... "The operation could not be completed because a default web browser could not be found. Please ensure that you have a web browser installed and that it is set to be the default browser" Where the hell do I set my default browser? Thanks ------------------ Say what you must, Do all you can, Break all the f***ing rules and go to Hell with Superman, And die like a champion, Yahey!
I don't use Netscape anymore so I couldn't tell ya. But on IE it's Tools -> Internet Options -> Programs Tab and at the bottom you'll see a checkbox for setting IE to check and see if it's the default browser. Look in the Options or Preferences menu section of Netscape. I haven't used the thing in so long I don't even remember what it's called. Hehe. ------------------ "I had mine chewed off by a boss one time." -- Behad leaves us wondering if he gets hazard pay...
Try upgrading your browser. My sister used to get crappy messages like that all the time until she upgraded to IE 5. ------------------ All hail Fadeaway's Cyberfish -- your 2000-2001 BobFinn* Fantasy Basketball League Champions!
Ottomaton- thanks for your help. It was win95.mtx (130 infected files). Everything is working great now. Back to worry free surfing on cc.net. ------------------
Cool glad I could help. My already big head continues to grow. You might want to send out an email to people you've comunicated with. This virus normaly propigates itself that way and you could save someone you know a lot of money and trouble. Any other questions? I do this for a living so I really do know what I'm talking about (very rare). [This message has been edited by Ottomaton (edited June 21, 2001).]
