I was wondering if anyone can help me out with this game. For some reason i just cant get good at it, my friends try to help me out still doesnt help. The main reason i suck is because i just choose plays on defense and offense. On defense i just choose one randomly and offense i just look to see where the players are going. My friends tried to tell me what the nickel, dime, 5-4 ect are for but i dont remember. Can anyone help me out, mainly with defense on what type of defenses i should choose?

it's just like a real football game. Certain Offensive formations and schemas combat certain defensive sets and vice versa. What you have to do is in relation to the schema that the other player chooses is to find a weakness in their formation for example secondary. That might be a crappy way to explain it, but basically if you have a basic knowledge of football you should be ok.

    for example...

When on offense the GOALLINE FORMATION may be used for that situation when you down around the 5 yrd line or when your team needs that power HB dive to gain that extra yard for the first down. To combat this offense, you obviously have stack you d-line up with more guys. So you choose goalline defense and you fire the gaps or blitz all ect...

Find a team you like, go to the practice mode, and get really familiar with their playbook. Try to find a team with good balance. i.e. solid D, solid offense.

I play a lot of ball control, which means I don't go around throwing the ball like crazy if I don't have a defense at all to get me the ball back. I like running some clock, moving the chains, and limiting my opponent's chances on offense.

On defense, Nickel and Dime are typically defenses to play against the pass. 4-3 and 3-4 are pretty standard, and goal line is used to defend short yardage situations. 4-4 and 5-2? Well, I use them against the run sometimes, or against the option, or even a change of pace. But I never run them all the time.

If you have trouble getting pressure on the QB with just your line, try using Dime Defense, and blitz an LB or CB. It works for me.

I hope this helps some....if all else fails, find a team with a fast QB, like Va Tech or Texas, and just run the option like a MoFo.
