I have a couple of teenage nephews that are in to the NBA but they don't know much of the history beyond the greats they use in 2K. So, I'm putting together a list of NBA documentaries for them to watch. This covers most of the 80s/90s but is missing some big eras (60's Celtics, 00s/10s, etc). What documentaries would you add and what order would you put them in? 30 for 30: Celtics/Lakers: Best of Enemies or Magic & Bird: A Courtship of Rivals 30 for 30: Phi Slama Jama The Last Dance 30 for 30: Bad Boys 30 for 30: The Fab Five 30 for 30: The Announcement Clutch City Double Clutch 30 for 30: Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. The New York Knicks 30 for 30: June 17th, 1994 30 for 30: This Magic Moment
In addition to the “Clutch City” and “Double Clutch” videos from 1994/1995, the 2015 documentary “Clutch City” was excellent. It featured Dream and Rudy T, as well as fantastic new commentary by Vernon Maxwell and others. I’ve actually had trouble finding a way to watch the 2015 film recently. It seems it disappeared from NBA OnDemand, and is not available on DVD. Very strange.
Good call. I forgot about that. It's still online here thanks to @JW86- https://bbs.clutchfans.net/threads/re-live-clutch-city-2015-documentary.301063/
Iverson (2014) and the Carter effect (2017) are also good for the late 1990s and early 2000s era for the two non-related rockets players.
I still cannot believe there hasn't been one on the Adelman Kings or just the 2002 Kings with the Lakers controversy, Adelman's Blazers, the 1994 Nuggets, a Glen Rice one and at some point we need a 2018 Rockets one.
Great thread, when I was a kid I was a casual fan. But when I studied the game's history for fun I really started appreciating players I didn't before and understanding the game. The Last Dance, Hoop Dreams and Basketball: A love story are given classics to check out. If you want 60s celtics anything with Bill Russell will usually get you there. Learning about Oscar Robertson, Jerry West and Bob Pettit can help you appreciate how good they could be in different eras. 70s basketball for Longshots - The Life & Times Of The American Basketball Association or learning about Kareem, Dr. J and Walton can be entertaining as well.
