*yawn* They said this before Michigan, before Michigan St., before Air Force, before Florida St. I know some of you hate them, but Notre Dame is a very good football team that is capable of playing with anyone, and contending for a championship. They may not have the talent of OU or Miami, but football isn't all talent. Coaching plays a huge part of it. The folks doubting the Irish now seem an awful lot like those who gave OU no shot against FSU in 2000.
I admit that OU is probably playing better right now than Miami; however, I feel that until Miami loses a game, they should continue to be #1 in the polls. I agree.....when a team has won as many games in a row as Miami has, why bump them out of #1?
Or, maybe, just maybe, some of us think the polls should be based on how the teams are playing now, and not involving prior seasons. It's great that Miami won all those games with Clinton Portis, Jeremy Shockey, Ed Reed, and others, but I don't see the relevance from those seasons to now. I don't have a problem with Miami being ranked number one -- I just think OU is playing better. And if that makes me "biased and envious", then that's ridiculous.
A team shouldn't drop unless they lose. Margin of Victory should be COMPLETELY out of the picture, but obviously some are forgetting that.
However, that feeling is not one that others agree with. I remember back in 1991 when Miami beat an undefeated FSU team in Tallahassee. The next week they struggled to beat a decent BC team in BC 19-14. They were jumped in the polls by Washington in the Coaches poll and that cost them an undisputed share of the NC. Now, if Miami struggles to beat Rutgers next week and wins by say 10 or less, then yea, I would agree with people saying that OU should be ranked ahead of Miami, but West Virginia is not a bad team. I can totally see the argument that Miami should be #1 in the polls. For what it's worth, I don't think Miami has done anything to lose the #1 spot - they have basically just been workmanlike in beating people. I put OU #1 more for what OU did these last couple of weeks, and especially against ISU. Personally, assuming Texas can't make the national championship game, I would love to see OU vs. Miami for the title. Neither team is as good as their 2000 (offensive issues) and 2001 (defensive issues) teams respectively, but still the best in football in my opinion. Although I would still prefer to see 5 teams go undefeated and really mess up the BCS.
A team shouldn't drop unless they lose. Margin of Victory should be COMPLETELY out of the picture, but obviously some are forgetting that. To me, this is silly. That says that if OU and Miami don't lose, no matter how dominant any other team is, they can never have a chance at the title. Suppose Georgia played the toughest schedule in the country and beat every team they played 100-0, do they not deserve a shot simply because they weren't preseason ranked above OU or Miami?
Uhmm....too bad that'll never happen. I'll give you that "situation", but nothing will ever come close to it in real life. That's why it should be Miami, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Georgia, Notre Dame. Keep them up until they lose. (The only argument I can see is Notre Dame being 3rd, but that's it, everything else is garbage).
Uhmm....too bad that'll never happen. I'll give you that "situation", but nothing will ever come close to it in real life. That's why it should be Miami, Oklahoma, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Georgia, Notre Dame. It happened in 2000. OU jumped from ~#15 to #1 by beating ~#10 Texas, ~#1 Nebraska, and ~#2 KSU in 3 consecutive weeks. By your definition, OU wouldn't have been able to jump anywhere near that far, because they couldn't jump above the other undefeated teams unless those teams lost, even though OU was clearly the best team in the country at that point.
Where did I say they struggled overall? I only said they struggled against the run. You should brush up on your reading comprehension prior to going out of your way to flame my OPINION. How am I being jealous? What can I do to show that I'm not jealous? Am I supposed to say Miami is #1 rah rah rah, when I don't really feel that way? Get over yourself. I'm just a fan of FSU, since I was about 9, which goes back to the 1991 season. I don't like FSU as much as I used to, as I am an Arizona State fan since I went to school there for 1 year.
Kind of like how you can get your point across without going out of your way to be an ******* right? How about I stop my "pornographic peepshows", if it means you getting off your high horse?
kidrock, So you're basically saying I'm an *******, huh? That's rich. I'm not gonna waste my time any further with you other than to say that I enjoyed how you used three separate posts to do something that could have taken one post.
Wow. The ultimate smack... I'm fully expecting you to come out with some grammar smack the next time you feel the need to chastise me.
Given that we have enough threads on college football and this one's devolved past the normal Clutch BBS college football debate stupidity, I think it's had its time.
