I am Chuck Berry, I played for 30 minutes, you paid me for 30 minutes, put my cash in the brown paper bag, there will be no encores
Holy crap, Jerry Lee was the same way: "pay me, i'm out" However, possibly, the best piano showman ever He was nicknamed "The Killer" for a reason
Been so long ago, but listening to that first song Buck has an almost Gang of Four guitar sound going...
Agreed. Jerry Lee Lewis also runs me back to Hovie Lister - the pianist for the Statesman Quartet. Unfortunately there is not a lot of video where you can actually see Lister play from back then. Crazy enough - as subdued as this is, they were a very controversial southern gospel group at the time (in religious circles). Mostly because of their sometimes boogie sound and because of the bass singers (Jim "Big Chief" Weatherington) shaking of his leg. It's funny because it's barely even noticeable. But the churched were offended. Elvis was a big fan of The Statesman and often credited Big Chief with influencing his signature leg/hip shakes. They have a lot of fun songs.
